Hi. My family will be taking a five night cruise in December. There will be 6 of us in two rooms, 5 of whom are legal age to drink.

I was looking at some carry-on or luggage options on amazon that would hold 6 wine bottles (or rather mix of wine bottles and champagne) and then we would bring 2 six-packs of beer packed separately. Does anyone have any suggestions of reasonably/cheap priced carriers or luggage that will clear the scanning machine? We are not flying as we are driving to Galveston from Austin, so super-sturdy is not an issue.

How have you brought your wine onboard, especially if you have more than 2 bottles?

thanks!

Split by cabin to distribute the weight. Or use a cardboard wine box from the store and a soft sided tote bag.
oh wow - that's an excellent idea as those wine boxes hold 6!!! and literally will cost nothing extra... Thank you so much!!! Now we just gotta figure out the beer, but that seems way easier since those are cans :).

A box of wine usually holds 12 bottles. You could put two cans of beer in each of the empty slots BUT it would be pretty heavy. And yes, somebody has to “wine-sit”!

Oh our wine carriers at the grocery store was what I was thinking and those hold 6, but you're right - a legit wine box could hold the wine and beer...

So I’m curious. Since the policy is 2 bottles of wine per person, can be brought onboard, do they monitor that “per person” or “per total adultsx2” when you check in. (Leaving beer out of equation, since I’m leaving that at home.)

As long as you are all together at check in/ x-ray screening, consider it as sum total. Meaning, you can put it all in one bag/carrier.

Does anyone have a carryon size wheeled suitcase? You will be toting all this while you wait for rooms to be ready.

well this is why I was asking because I was looking at this, but it seems it might be a few inches too thick in one direction, but fit every other dimension for scanning, carry-on and use at ports for other options... https://www.amazon.com/Lazenne-Wine-Bags-Travel-Professionals/dp/B0CQ5KG5HZ/?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_w=pGLdR&content-id=amzn1.sym.e92d427b-6681-44e4-9201-8463289b9c75:amzn1.symc.f3a6ae52-fb92-4bbd-ba18-628777ebc1c0&pf_rd_p=e92d427b-6681-44e4-9201-8463289b9c75&pf_rd_r=YVV9240ZDRYPBGMN11D9&pd_rd_wg=RtgfN&pd_rd_r=9a76f997-adfb-421a-b19e-475bab642036&ref_=pd_hp_d_atf_ci_mcx_mr_ca_hp_atf_d

we could use it at port excursions and beach/picnics, but it may not pass muster :(.

The above is showing as 18 x 14 x 9.5 inches (per the Amazon link)

TSA 24 x 16 x 10

(edit: DCL states 22 x 14 x 9). I see that extra 0.5 in depth in the Amazon bag.)

That bag should fit, unless DCL has a smaller scanner.

No regular roll-behind in your house, just use bubble wrap for cushioning?

That would fit through the scanner. On our first cruise out of Galveston, we didn’t see the luggage drop off point, so we took our medium/large suitcases with us through security. They fit with no problem.

We usually always bring multiple bottles and I just use a regular carry on sized wheeled suitcase or duffle. I would have each adult carry their own bottles in their own wheeled carry on.....or is not everyone bringing their own carry on. We have used a wheeled duffle also. It does not have to be fancy. I just pack the bottles in with my other carry on stuff like camera, meds, bathing suit, etc. I don't use anything special....I just make sure it has wheels.

Oh, the link you posted looks like it would definitely fit in the x-ray scanner but personally, I would not spend $70 for just a special wine carrier.

I wouldn't get too concerned on the dimensions, it is soft sided on at least 4 out of 6 sides (potentially 5 out of 6) and hence slightly compressible. a 1/2 inch isnt going to hold you back.

If carrying on a lot is a priority for you, you may want to wait and board a little later when the rooms are ready so that you don't have to carry it around the ship with you.
