My best friend and I are going to California in May, but we both aren't old enough to rent a car just yet so we will have to rely on public transportation. We're going to be staying at Best Host Inn, which has a shuttle to and from Disneyland.

I was reading on another thread that Lyft/Uber don't pick up from the airport, so what would be our cheapest option to get to our hotel? We will be flying into LAX.

Also, we were wanting to hit up Universal Hollywood possibly on our arrival day...anyone have any clue how much ballpark it would be roundtrip (Best Host Inn -> Universal then Universal -> Best Host Inn)?

Thank you so much! :)

I've used SuperShuttle in the past to get from LAX to a hotel. They're fairly inexpensive (it was $17 plus tip), but they can be time consuming. It took 45 minutes from when I was picked up to when we finally left LAX (I was at the first stop, but they made half a dozen or so more stops). You could also look into a private shuttle (e.g. ExecuCar), but they're more expensive.

I've never tried to navigate public transit in LA, so I don't know how much it would cost. You might look into Uber/Lyft or a taxi for this part of the trip. I like to use TaxiFareFinder (http://www.taxifarefinder.com/) to get a sense of how much a taxi would cost.

This should help:

"Airport Proximity to DLR and Ground Transportation Information" by 3TinksAndAnEeyore www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2318297

Also check Universal's website for Grey Line tours. Last I checked you could get a bus ride from DLR to Universal. If memory serves it cost $40.

I wouldn't try to go to USH on your arrival day unless you are arriving very early in the morning. And even then you should allow for possible flight delays.

You may want to just take the Disneyland Resort Express to DLR, and then catch your hotels shuttle to the hotel.

My dh did Karmel from LAX to our hotel. It was $26. It was a town car, and "shared service" but their "shared" to the resort area only goes to other resort area hotels, so it shouldn't be a huge time sink of going all around the city like SuperShuttle can be (or at least that was my experience with SS in SF).

Public transportation is pretty dismal in So Cal to get anywhere effectively.

As mentioned, the Disneyland Express is probably gonna be your best bet to get from LAX. Supershuttle may be cheaper but can easily turn into a 4 hour trip.

To get up to Hollywood, I don't not know the specific train schedule or stops but I would look at that from Anaheim to the closest it will get ya to Hollywood then Uber X it from the train station to where you wanna go in Hollywood. That will be your cheapest and most efficient option.

Uber X is by far the cheapest way to get around and they are all over Anaheim and the LA basin.

If you wanna use Uber X or Lyft from LAX...one of the tricks is to just take a cab which are readily available to a business just off airport property like a Starbucks and have Uber X pick ya up from there or you can take the shuttle to the Rental Car Facility which is free and request a pickup from that location.

Not sure what your flight times are, but Disneyland Express wasn't an option for us last trip because we arrived at 8:00 pm and departed at 8:30 am. But, you can pull up their schedule online to check timing if you arrive/depart early or late.

We used Lansky's car service, but it wasn't cheap. $180 round trip. It was about an hour drive each way.

Allanaheimtours.com or something like that, do a transport and ticket to US. They can.pick. you up from your hotel and stop you at US and then pick you up for the return trip. Not sure of the cost. We have used them for Seaworld and Legoland.
