transportation within Disney

I've read lots of posts, and I sooooo appreciate the information that so many of you are providing!!! We're taking our first trip to DW in August, staying off property. We'll have a car, and will drive to the parks. I know that hopper passes allow complete use of the Disney Transportation system...but there's one thing I can't figure out. Can we use the transportation on a day that we aren't going to one of the parks? For example, one day we want to go to Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary for breakfast, and I thought it would be fun to ride the monorail there from the ticket and transportation center. Would that be allowed? Also, our first day we expect to arrive around three, so I thought we could visit a couple of the resorts. I read about "Friendship Boats" that run between the Boardwalk and the Yacht and Beach Club--can we just hop on one? Or would there be a fee? Or maybe just show our passes?

Yeah, you'll be ok using the transportation, they won't ask to see your tickets and there's no way they'd charge a fee. -Stephanie
