In the midst of planning my first Disney Cruise for 4 (me, daughter, son-in-law and 4 year old grandson). We are doing a MDAS out of Miami in February and will be flying in the night before. Based on some recommendations I am thinking about staying at the Hyatt and I was planning to just book private transportation from the hotel to the port the next morning. I am wondering if it makes more sense to book a DCL hotel and purchase their transportation package. I am booking my own air transportation and am therefore not sure if I can even take advantage of DCL transportation. Can some of you experts chime in? I've heard the DCL transportation is easier and also that it's better (and sometimes even cheaper) to book a private car. Thanks!

Disney prices tend to be high compared to booking independantly. Also you get a specific time that the transport will pick you up. I would personally go independant but it really is up to you. DCL transport does make it easier in terms of you know they will get you there etc so really its weighing up the additional costs against the security aspect. I would get some ideas on the pricing difference and go from there. If its not much different then I'd definitely choose Disney

Congrats. We just cruised on the magic out of Miami. We stayed st the embassy suites. They had a shuttle pick us up at the airport. They have a cruise transportation desk inside the hotel. It was $10per person and we just made arrangements when we checked in. It was very simple and easy
And we will use them again

We cruised out of Miami in March. We stayed at the Comfort Suites Miami Airport North. They have a free shuttle from the airport to the hotel and a free shuttle to the port. You sign up for the free shuttle to the port when you check in. There were three different times to choose from. Worked great.

DCL transportation out of Miami is a cinch. No need to have booked air via Disney. Just call DCL & tell them to add the transfers to & from the port.

check into FLL airport as well. Our flights for our Miami cruise in January were way cheaper to fly into there than MIA. We stayed at a holiday inn near the FLL airport (free shuttle from airport to hotel) and then used Jiffy Jeff Transportation ($15 per person one way) to go to port. The port was maybe 45 mins away.

Arrived at the Hyatt Regency Miami this afternoon for tomorrow’s EBTA departure. Taxi, Uber, and Lyft were all available to transport us from MIA airport to the hotel. The two of us with all our luggage for this long cruise and subsequent Barcelona stay made an Uber XL or taxi comparable in price. We paid about $33 including 25% tip for a taxi. We will either take a taxi or Uber XL tomorrow morning for the short ride to the port. I don’t know what the DCL cost is from their hotel to the port, but when I checked on cost from airport to port for a cruise back in 2015 (the last time we flew in on the cruise departure day; never again), it was $24 per person. At that time, we took a taxi for a flat rate of $24 plus tip for the two of us so the DCL transfer was not cost competitive (I think the aoort to port flat rate is now $27).

As a point of comparison, we stayed at the DCL hotel in San Diego prior to the EBPC cruise last fall (that was a Hyatt; we booked it on our own, not through DCL, at a much lower cost). Those DCL transfers were $18 per person for a trip that took about 3 minutes. We could actually see the ship from the hotel. Almost any private transfers will be less costly than paying the per person rates typical of the DCL transfers.

The airport and cruise port are not very far apart, and there are so many transportation options in that part of Miami that there is no need for Disney transfers. If you want to see some of Miami, book a hotel in downtown or South Beach. If you just staying the night before to make sure there are no delays with getting to your cruise, that I would choose one of the hotels that offers airport transportation.
