I'm sure that this has been brought up before, but I'll bring it up again!
On our last trip in September, we ran into quite a few full busses on our journey back to POFQ. With 2 little ones and tired feet, it was really wearing on us to have to wait 3 or 4 bus cycles to get on a bus and then most of the time we had to stand.

I have one simple word for you....CAB.

All of the parks have a cab stand near the bus loading zone. If the busses looked too crowded, we just headed for the cab stand. I don't think we ever paid more than $7 to get back to POFQ from any park.

I know that the busses are "free" but, if you're just needing to get back to your hotel fast and you don't mind spending a little extra $$, catch a cab!

great suggestion! we used cabs a few times last trip and it was a nice change of pace and incredibly convenient! i heartily agree w/your recommendation :)

I agree that the option of taking a taxi is a good one at the end of a long day. Just want to note that you cannot get a taxi at the Magic Kingdom. You need to either monorail over to the TTC or to any MK resort (you can also take a ten minute walk to the Contemporary).
Taxis are normally waiting outside all WDW resorts. If one is not available a Cast Member will get one for you right away.
A tip for people in World Showcase is to exit at the Epcot International Gateway (near United Kingdom) and take a five minute walk to the Beach Club for a taxi. You could, of course, get a taxi at any of the Epcot resorts (Beach Club, Yacht Club, Boardwalk, Swan and Dolphin). You can easily walk to any of these from the Epcot IG. You can also walk or boat over to this area from the Disney Studios.

it has been our experience that taxis are only waiting outside any wdw *DELUXE* resort... at the mods and values typically you have to call one and wait for it (usually only a couple of minutes)...
