Reviews please on the best transportation from Sanford to GF. Are we better off with one of the more private companies or just rely on an uber when we get there? The privates are definitely kind of expensive.

Sanford airport is over an hour away from Disney without traffic; that’s why car service is so expensive from there. They have to pay the driver to trek up there and back.
While Uber and Lyft are definitely an option, and drivers do watch the flight schedule for fares, it can still get fairly expensive with it being about a 50-mile one way trip, especially if surge pricing comes into play. Also, due to the small number of flights that come into Sanford daily, rideshare availability can be more limited, as there are fewer drivers in that area to begin with.

I agree, some people book flights to Sanford to save a few $$$ on airfare not realizing the added cost/time/distance of ground transportation eats up any savings. MCO is generally a better option if going to Disney/Universal. Make sure to check the TOTAL costs involved before booking a flight into Sanford if you have other options.

Exactly. As you and I have discussed time and time again, people see the cheap flights and don’t realize all of the other costs involved with flying into Sanford.

Sanford airport to Disney is almost twice the distance and the drive takes almost twice the time. Pricing reflects the difference.

The difference between the two airports was magnified when comparing free DME from MCO vs $$$ from Sanford

All of the above is true and thank you for your advice. I guess alot of it depends on if you fly out of an airport with alot of different options and great fares. Unfortunately, our aiport is small which makes the prices quite crazy flying into MCO. Normally I would definitely choose MCO over Sanford but I snagged a BOGO flight with Allegiant into Sanford for 187.00 for 2 people. The flight on Delta is $708 pp so with that said I figure I can spurge with car transfers. So now just trying to decide on reserving a more private transfer or waiting and hoping I can get an Uber. Thank You

I would definitely go with car service for the convenience factor. A lot of Uber/Lyft drivers in the Orlando/Disney area don’t want to take Sanford fares, because they will end up either getting stuck up there without a return fare for hours, or they’ll get stuck doing local runs in the Sanford area for terrible money. Plus, with car service, the driver meets you at baggage claim, helps with luggage out to the vehicle, etc., and upon departure, they’ll be waiting for you at the resort. No need to worry about whether or not you’ll get a car.

Well @OHIOVACATIONER I am sure the above comments are valid but I will give you my positive Allegiant experience from October 2023. I use Allegiant often from Allentown to Sanford and last October my husband and I used Uber from Sanford to Pop Century and back with no issues. Total cost round trip with tip was 143.00 dollars. We arrived early afternoon and our return trip was mid morning and both days were weekdays. Traffic wasn't bad and both trips took between 50 and 55 minutes. Getting our Ubers was easy and it was my first time using Uber and things went great actually. Now I don't know your arrival and departure times but ours were no problem and our rides came within 10 minutes. Maybe I was just lucky but I plan on using Uber again this October. Allegiant flys Allentown to Sanford every day so it's very convenient and with airport discounts and military benefits it is definitely the best way presently for us for our Disney vacations. I know the Allegiant to Sanford Disney option may not be the best for many but it works for us. Just wanted to share my farely recent experience. Hope this helped.

My family flies Allegiant almost twice a year from Northern Lower Michigan to Sanford. We love it as we skip the 2 hour layover in Chicago and who doesn't love a direct flight. We found a car service - American Luxury Transportation that picks us up at Sanford Airport and delivers us to whichever Disney resort we are staying at. We have used this service at least 4 round trip times so far. They are ALWAYS on time (which means early!), they track our flights as we generally have some delays due to weather. Our return flights from Sanford are usually at 6AM, which means pick up at 3AM - their response - NO PROBLEM! Their fleet is suburbans which fits all of our luggage and all of us. The vehicle temperature is always set for us - meaning in the summer he has the vehicle nice and cool and in the winter, he may be freezing but has it set just at warm so we can acclimate a bit easier. I love that I don't have to deal with a car rental, car return, filling a gas tank or paying tolls. We have used Lyft around the Disney area a few times and found a few that we had a language barrier with. While everything worked out fine, it was a bit uncomfortable going in the incorrect direction for a few minutes.
