So I was accepted Monday as transportation. I guess they took the monorail aspect away because it says "(removed monorails)". However, do CP CMs get the chance to operate the boats or just do the announcements and various spiels? If anyone has done transportation please message me!

Thanks :D

one of my roommates was a friendship captain. he drove the boats in Epcot.

I also got the transportation role and have been trying to research into what exactly we have to do. To my surprise, I found nothing. Any info on what exactly is done for this role will be greatly appreciated!

DD's friend drove the boats in Bay lake. (Outside MK). Now it took awhile to get to drive- he assisted on the ferry and helped load the boats etc for quite some time before they trusted him to drive the boat.

my roommate & neighbor were both monorail pilots. My roommate was first put into boats & then transferred to Monorail HAH

congrats!

I was attractions & had to memorize spiels, emergency exit procedures etc. It is fun & so is the training. GL!

They took monorails off the description now. :(.

I believe they removed CMs from monorail transportation after the bad accident a few years back. A CM was driving when it crashed.

After the death CPs were not allowed to become pilots but could still work the stations. Seems that's changed too.

Although, you can apply for monorails after or before your program. Also.. I know for this role you can possibly be placed at certain resorts. Where would ur costuming be for at resorts? Would it just be the closest park?

Congratulations! I was transportation, I drove the FriendShip Boats at Epcot. So you do get to drive them! You could also be working on the MK boats however for those you just get to deckhand as it takes 6 months of deckhanding before they qualify you to drive. I think you could also possibly work on the Sasagoola boats at DTD area resorts but I could be wrong (and I'm probably misspelling it) and I'm not sure if you drive. It's listed on the job description beside the FriendShips, although I haven't known any cp's to work there. It is true that cp's can no longer drive the monorail. During my program (last spring) you could be a 'monorail greeter' which is basically a crowd handler. It also takes a while of working to be approved to drive the monorails due to safety concerns. One other role you can have is bus greeter, that's when you stand at the resorts from around 7am to 1pm assisting guest with bus issues. They do tend to get yelled at when the buses are late. For us we didn't find out which role was ours until check in.

In your FriendShips you might see me around!

I'm hoping since I told my interviewer I had my boat license that I'd be placed on boats :). Aaaand I just realize I already said that whoops. Can you answer my last question though since you have the experience? Lol

My son just completed his college program in Transporation in August and he was a boat captain at Sassagoula. He took the boating license test after training for a few weeks and then drove the pontoon boats at all the Sassagoula locations: Old Key West, Port Orleans (both), water taxi at DTD, etc. He loved his role and the people he worked with. I believe it is true that if you are on the Friendship boats, you don't drive just assist. He was sad to leave but he did get hired full-time as he had graduated from college before he started his college program.

He loved transportation - always busy, great people, good hours (he always had 40+) and very guest oriented.

Hope that helps.

The question about costuming? If you work at a resort your costuming is either at that resort or they could have a shared costuming if the resorts are close together in a nearby building (within reasonable walking distance from the resort/bus transport). If you work at a park (like FriendShip boats are at Epcot) the costuming is at the park. No single location carries all the costumes do you'll have to go to yours. You'll have a work location orientation and they will usually help you get your costume or at least show you where it is (and the cast there can help). So you'll be pointed in the right direction and if all else fails your trainer will help you. One note do NOT buy your shoes beforehand. FSB requires you to have white shoes while some other roles in transportation require black. Learn your role and get your training schedule first. That will have shoes, costume, and where to meet your trainer.

Now as far as a boaters license goes its actually not necessary to have one before getting hired. They will pay you to take the test and get your certificate. And you only need the basic one if you were born after 1988. I didn't have one before I started the job. But the boats are fun! So hopefully you got that if you wanted it.

You do drive on the FriendShip boats, that was my role as a cp. the Magic Kingdom boats you can't drive (they require all employees not just cp's six months of deckhanding). The FriendShip boats get about 10 cp's per program and we all drive and deckhand. Some nights when we're all working most of the cast is under 30, it's really fun (you will be closing basically all of the time on FSB, the morning guys have 10+ years of seniority). Oh yeah op I didn't mention but FSB cast is mostly older men. But most of the captains are nice.

There's an article on the intern and program blog of a cp that drove the ferry. I guess he must've extended a lot then?

Agent7 - my son said that the Friendship Boats are not in Transportation. They are listed in the CP under a different department. He said he knows this since as a CP he couldn't pick up hours on the HUB for that role. MK deckhand CP's can pick up hours at Sass and Sass can deckhand at MK but neither can work the EPCOT Friendship boats. My son also couldn't drive the MK boats as he was trained on them and the CP's there only worked as deckhands. He just finished his CP in August as a Spring Advantage. The other transportation CP's with him that started at MK coud only deckhand. They couldn't drive unless they picked up hours at Sass. My son never had to work any other than Sass as there were plenty of hours available there.

Parking - there's a backstage parking area in PORiverside where he would also pick up his costuming (dark shorts, white button down shirt). This is also where he'd get his boat, make sure it was cleaned, dock it at night, etc. Every location has cast member parking and a onsite costuming area. Sometimes that costume pick up area is a trailer. Traditions will give you all this information for the specific area you will be working.

There are many older people in Transportation but my son made incredible friends there who gave him lots of advice, were great mentors, and took him under their wing and guided him with how the company worked. He had an amazing relationship with the people that worked there and he met other cast members at DTD that he would see when he had dinner breaks. The last week of his CP was difficult for him. He knew what a great experience this was for him and the special people he got to work with. He had applied to extend and was accepted but then found out he got a full-time role in a different area. Since last January, my son closes most of our phone conversations with "I love my life" - for him, it has been a positive experience wherever he's been.

Best of luck!

oopps - typo - he wasn't trained on the Friendship boats :) That sentence above doesn't make sense.
