I hope someone can help! I am so confused!

We are trying to schedule a three day trip to DL before attending a conference in San Diego. What are my options regarding transportation from city to city?

We would rather not have to rent a car if possible. I realize this may be the only way, but I am investigating alternatives. Should we fly into LAX, shuttle to DL and then find transportation to San Diego? Does such a thing exist? What about doing it the other way around? Fly into San Diego and then transport to DL?

I am also trying to avoid flying into one city and flying out of the other - too costly!

Any suggestions or opinions? Has anyone had experiene trying to do this?

Sorry if this sounds ridiculous, I just can't seem to figure it out!

You can take Amtrak to the Anaheim or Fullerton stations. From Anaheim you'd need to take a taxi 3 miles to get to DLR; from Fullerton you could take the #43 OCTA bus from the "transportation center" which shares the Fullerton station parking lot.

The Amtrak ride between San Diego and Anaheim is very pretty and convenient. The train travels along the coast for much of the trip. I always get off at the Anaheim depot, which is in the Anaheim Stadium parking lot, and then take a taxi to Disneyland. I suggest looking into a business class upgrade which does not cost much and gives you complimentary beverages, snacks, newspaper, and more leg room.

When are you going to your conference? I will be doing the same thing in June but i plan to go to the conference first and then to DL. :yay:

I'm making a trip to the west coast and will start in San Diego. I plan to take the train up to Anaheim. I'm thinking of booking the 5:50pm train (arriving 8pm) in hopes of viewing a sunset over the pacific. Do you know if that's likely? If not, I might opt for an earlier train.

Great suggestion! I think my kids would love a train ride, and I'm glad to know about the business class upgrade.

The conference starts on the 7th, so we are opting to go before in the hopes of missing the crowds. I figured the later in June we went the more the crowds would start to increase.

I don't know exactly when the sun sets on your travel dates, so I cannot assure you that you will see the sunset over the ocean. A good portion of the trip will give you great ocean views. At one point it almost feels like you are on the beach! I enjoy watching the waves and surfers from the train.

The train also goes through some canyon areas. The trip is quite picturesque until the train reaches the Orange County urban sprawl. But even that is exciting because it means that you are almost in Anaheim.

Thanks for the info. I guess I'd better see if I can locate sun set info. There is bound to be a web site with that info. :)

Edit - Goggle is amazing! You can find just about anything. Sunset is scheduled for 7:50pm that day. That is
when the last part of the Sun is about to disappear below the horizon
. It looks like it's worth a try.

We went in early June and had a great time. The parks were very quiet and we really did not have to wait much. The weather was great and we even had fun at the beach!!

Have a wonderful trip.
