Transportation question for SSR & DCL in same trip

We just returned from a week at SSR on Saturday. What a great trip! Now it's time to start planning our next vacation!

We would like to book 4 nights at SSR (to start the vacation) and then finish off the vacation with a 3 night DCL trip. My question is what do people generally do for transportation with a split vacation like this? I know we can use Magical Express for our arrival to SSR from Orlando International airport. I THINK we can use Magical Express from DCL to Orlando International airport at the end (but not sure). How about from SSR to DCL?

Thanks for any and all help!

There is no Magical Express from the cruise ships back to the airport. There is Disney transportation available for a charge - I think around $90 per person but don't quote me on that. You can rent a car to get back to the airport, take a town car, or use the disney transportation. You can also use all of these methods to get from SSR to the Disney ships as well.

We booked 2 one way rentals through Budget. It was easy to pick up at the airport, and then we returned the car in Port Canaveral. They have a shuttle that dropped us off right at the cruise terminal. Then we booked a second one way rental. Their shuttle picked us up and took us to the rental location. Then we returned it at the airport.

We found this to be very convienient and it was cheaper to book 2 one way rentals than it was to book Disney transportation. Plus it was nice having our own car when we were at the parks. There is also a Target near the Port that we were able to buy some water and last minute things before our cruise.

Have fun on your trip!

Check with MS, but I think you can get DCL resort transportion (for a fee) from the resort to the port. But it leaves mid-day. Most regular cruisers rent a car or hire a car service to take them to the port. Last time we went from SSR we shared a hired car with another DIS family so we could get to the port earlier and share the cost. We set this up on our DIS meet thread.

To hire a car service, check the DIS cruise forum for suggestions.

Last trip we used ME from MCO to the Poly and hired a car company from the Poly to the Port. We did not have good luck with it (the car service). First of all, they did not pick us up in front of our building like they told us they would. So we had to lug our lugguge to the Great Ceremonial House when we could have used GS to help us. It is their business and they supposedly take people to the cruise all the time - they should have known that. Then they were 45 minutes late picking us up on the way home and we did not receive any compensation for this at all. I would never use them again. My DH was fuming. We will use DCL buses next time it will be easier. Our friends who were on the cruise beat us to MCO on the DCL buses.

Sorry to hear about that travel nightmare! Hopefully you had a good cruise and could relax once you got to port.

There are a few threads on the DIS cruise forum about issues with car services. As it gets closer to my trip, I plan to research them, select a service, and monitor the threads for complaints. I don't know what I would do without the experiences of other DISers!

I just did this Nov 15 SSR and the 3 day cruise. I rented a car which we did have the 10 days we were at the resorts. Total was 326 (2 drivers) plus 45 for parking. In the future I would pay 69 per person and let them take me to the cruise. The only other perk to get a car was that we went to NASA for the day. Its a great place to visit if you have never been. We did have problems with our rental. It broke down and we had to have someone to come out. They could not help so then we got a new car brought out. We did use the car to skip the bus some days. You get free parking at the parks.

We did two one way rentals and it worked out great. DH picked up the car in DTD. He dropped us at port and returned the car. He was shuttled back to the terminal.

After the cruise we were all shuttled to the rental place and drove back to our resort. We were the only ones on the shuttle, so all of our luggage was not an issue. Back at the resort he returned the car to DTD. It was easy and painless and cost effective.

We got a free rental with our coke rewards points!

Thanks! What's not to love about 4 days at WDW and 7 days on the Magic:banana:   ! We had a wonderful trip other than the transportation incident. We will be using DCL buses next time.
