Help! This year we have a great problem to have. With our DPs we have more points than we would typically ever need. I have talked DH into using them for a cruise.

Now the problem. I presented it to him as we will not be paying anything extra it is like a free cruise because it will be using the DP we never counted on having. Here is the problem. The way it falls we will have to fly. Which is not too bad because we can fly Allegiant into Sanford for $220 both of us round trip. Now the catch. How to get to Port CHEAPLY, so I don't have to hear I told you so.

ME is not an option. Renting a car seems a waste to me because we would pay to park it at port, but maybe someone knows how to make this work. Then we come to taxi, car service, and shuttle. I have looked all over and most are about $100 per person each way or do not have prices from Sanford only MCO. If we have to pay $200 more we are better off flying Southwest into MCO and taking ME.

Does anyone have a cheap way to do this?

If you post this on the cruise boards, you will get alot of answers.

I haven't done this...but here are a few things people have posted...

Rent a car, drop off family at the Port, someone drive the car to the rental place near the port, take the shuttle back to the port. After you get off the cruise, take the shuttle to rent the car again.

ALso, most people fly in the day before just to make sure there are no issues getting to the port on time. They stay at a hotel near the port, and some dont charge for parking there. They also provide a shuttle to the ports.

For the life of me I can't remember what car agency is right down the street - but when we went on the cruise we rented a car and dropped the car off at the office about 3 blocks from the terminal - they had a shuttle that brought you to the port. Same on the reverse trip - shuttle back to car rental office.

We arrived the night before the cruise and stayed at the Holiday Inn right down the street from the terminal. We swam and relaxed and got to the terminal very early the next day. Lucky us - we were one of the first to board the ship - a little after noon. I don't know if you enjoy a drink or two on your cruise - but we actually checked a case of beer with our luggage that the room stewards very kindly put in the cooler for us in our cabin.

Another thing we did to save money - I'm not sure if this still works or not - when we were in Nassua we rented a room at the Days Inn accross the street from Atlantis. They have an arrangement with Atlantis that you get full use of the pools and beaches. I paid around $120 for the room - which was about $30 cheaper than just the tour of Atlantis.

Enjoy!!

Rent a car from either Budget, Hertz, Avis, or Enterprise. They all have locations at the port and a shuttle to take you to the port once you drop the car off. On the return rent a car the other way. They have shuttles to pick you up at the port and take you to the rental agency. This is the least expensive way to do it. We have done it several times and it has worked out great.

Thank you everyone. We were so excited and were going to book for the 3 night May 28th sailing. When I got to work today I was given some information that may make that date impossible. So we will probably look for something in July now. We will still use this information. Thank you so much!
