We are going to be at WDW on the 4th of July. I will not even try to be in a park that day. I figure the kids and I can spend the day by the pool. Explore the resort, have a nice dinner at the Wildreness Lodge at Whispering Canyon and finally see the fireworks from the Poly beach. How do you guys suggest we get from the Poly back to the Swan? Should we drive? Take Disney transportation?

IMHO, resort to resort travel (especially at night) works best if you drive or take taxis.

It will be a busy night for WDW transportation. If you can drive, I suggest you do that. Otherwise, you will have a challenging (and very possibly lengthier than normal) commute. When we were at the MK on the 4th, we were staying at the CR both times, so we could walk home. The monorail was a zoo! I expect the buses will be equally busy.

If you drive, just be aware you may run into problems parking at the Poly since it's a very very popular spot to view the July 4th fireworks - parking restrictions may be even more stringent there...in other words, you may not be allowed to park at the Poly just to view the 4th fireworks.

Also, if dining at the WCC at the WL, the 7/4 fireworks are scheduled for 9 pm. You could always leave your car at the WL and take a Blue flag launch to the CR, then the monorail to the Poly - allowing a good 1 hr. for this travel as the blue flag launches go first to the FWC before going on to the CR.

Additionally, WDW Watercraft Transportation shuts down about 20-30 minutes prior to these special fireworks and doesn't resume until about 20+- min or so afterwards due to waiting for the "All Clear".

Returning to the WL from the Poly, take the monorail to the CR and the blue flag launch from the CR to the WL. Or, take the gold flag launch from the Poly to the MK, then a red flag boat to the WL...or monorail it from the Poly to the CR and take a blue flag launch to the WL.

Another option would be to stay parked at the WL and take the WDW WL bus to the MK and the monorail or gold flag boat to the Poly.

Plan on crowds and possible long wait times due to the crowds.
