How are most people getting from Sanford Airport to Universal or Disney? We are a party of 4 going to Universal in March and a party of 5 going to Disney in May. Definitely don’t want or need to rent a car

For a party of 4 or 5, I definitely recommend a private car service. It will be expensive; it’s fairly far.
Universal is about 45 minutes from Sanford. Disney is about an hour from Sanford.
There simply aren’t that many Uber and Lyft drivers standing by at that airport, and you would need 2 UberX cars or standard Lyft cars with five people plus luggage. You’d all be able to fit in the SUVs and vans that the local private car services offer. With 4 people, book an SUV.

When it is adults only, I do Uber or Lyft. When I need a car seat or booster seat, I book a private transfer.

If you need to reserve 2 taxis for the size of your party, might be good to compare prices since one larger rental car may be cheaper. Any of the taxi/car services also get pricey if traveling a long distance.

OP would only need 2 cars if they were using Uber or Lyft. Car service or taxi would be one vehicle. Most taxis at SFB are vans. Car service would be an SUV or a van.

I got a quote from a private car service for our March trip and it is $350. Our 4 plane tickets were only $440 lol. We are 3 adults and a teenager traveling with 2 carryons and 1 checked bag for this trip. We would do Uber or Lyft but would need to do the XL. I’m concerned because a previous poster said ride shares were not so available at this airport. Have others found this to be true?

4 of you with baggage may or may not fit in an XL.
Rideshare cars are definitely available at Sanford, but they’re not as widely available as at MCO. It’s a much smaller airport with very few flights. Some days there are only 3 or 4 flights in and out.

Sanford is not MCO, but it’s still reasonably busy as an Allegiant hub. About as many passengers a year as Albany, Tulsa, or Des Moines. Definitely not just 3-4 flights a day!

FTwo one day one way car rentals may be the cheapest way to go. Gives a chance to shop and have your first dinner offsite.

Pax who fly into Sanford are going to give back some of their savings as increased ground transportation costs

I’ve looked at the schedule. Certain days of the week there are only 3 or 4 flights in and out.

I think the very first factor when choosing the destination Airport would be the differential in Costs. I am canadian so pardon my lack of knowledge on the geography of the USA. If your flight savings DO NOT equate to the additional Transportation cost differential from airports Of course why fly to SFB ? Saying this if it is exactly the same or slightly more( personal Budget preference)for me is about $50-75 For time and convenience I would PICK MCO.

  1. I have Budgeted for the magic buss of $100 for 3 of us to and from MCO.
  2. IF i chose SFB for a reduced AIR cost - I would make sure that NEW transportation ( LESS $100 from the magic bus cost-apply it to the toal cost of alternate) + any additional cost is the same or within $50-75 additional price tag, as SFB is further etc etc.
  3. so MCO = $100(Magic) + airfare $2000 Total Transport = $2100
  4. so SFB = (saved $100 Magic bus) (NEW SHUTTLE cost say $300 round trip less $100 Magic saved ($200-250 adjusted cost) . + reduced airfare for SFB dest $1000 ($1000 saved) = Total transport = $1250 -$1300 air fare and shuttle.

TOTAL BUDGET SAVINGS at : $800

Now every persons or family budget is different ours it modest But the way i see it for us is AIR savings does NOT negate on ground transport and can save us (which just equates to more fun as well spend it all maybe lol) a significant amount.

SO i feel that regardless of destination Airport the savings need to either balance and or provide more benefit.
OF course if you fly from NY to Orlando and score a great ticket price to SFB vs MCO the difference in the savings of AIR fare needs to jutify the added cost of ground transport to be viable. I feel the closer you are the less likely this may be for us we are of course international and a good distance hence our flights are more expensive all together.

Hope this post sort of puts an additional view into perspective when choosing transport.

Have a great day all.

EDIT: Just make sure your CHEAP Airfare is reputable read reviews weight it out.
