Transportation from resort to park

We would love to go to Disney soon but we are concerned about getting from the resort to the parks. We will stay at the Contemporary or Bay Lake Tower so getting to Magic Kingdom is no problem. We would also like to go to Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios. We have taken Minnie Vans in the past because I never liked the bus or monorail (I suspect that I will like them less now that we have to worry about COVID). We have taken taxis but really didn’t like them at all and we get nervous when we drive from park to park. So, now that Minnie Vans aren’t available it’s going to be a real problem getting from the resort to the park. Has anyone used Lyft? Did you feel safe? The good thing about Minnie Vans was that the drivers were previously cast members so we felt safe riding with them. If you have used Lyft recently were the drivers doing anything to help reduce the spread of COVID? I’ve considered doing a split stay but it’s always been kind of a pain to move from resort to resort and even if we did a split stay we would still need transportation to Animal Kingdom. We will only be there for five nights.

Considering your concerns and self-imposed limitations, I'd suggest you rent a car and have peace of mind and flexibility for a little extra cost. Call us strange, but we actually enjoy the busses and monorail.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with the buses, in my opinion. They're especially good now that they only allow six parties onboard at a time, with assigned seating and dividers between parties, and they tend to run 3 buses back to back.

Thank you. We actually drive to Disney so we have our car but we avoid driving at Disney because we don’t know where we are going and it always seems like we are in the wrong lane. The GPS regularly takes us the wrong way. I think that’s because Disney is always rerouting traffic. Driving at Disney puts DH in a bad mood and thats never a good way to start the day.

I think that our only choice may be Lyft. I just want to make sure they are taking steps to address COVID.

I was germaphobic long before COVID. That why I didn’t like the buses or monorail. Minnie Vans were wonderful. It‘s probably a bad time to go to Disney but we have been staying home and following the guidelines for months. We need a break and we will continue following the guidelines as closely as possible while we are at Disney.

That was not my experience at all last month. If one bus was full, there was another one right behind it. That said, I wasn't trying to get to the parks for rope drop.

It seems to be hit or miss. Some people have had really long waits and others haven’t had to wait long at all. I need to plan this trip really well so that my family doesn’t really notice what they’re missing. So, I need to need to do things like schedule lunch at Beaches and Cream so they don’t mind the fact that ESPN Grill is closed.

Everyone has their different tolerances and perspectives during this time and that’s OK, but I’d get on a WDW bus over a stranger’s Lyft car ANY day. Not a knock on rideshare drivers at all as I’m sure many/most seek to provide a safe environment for themselves and passengers, but I just feel more comfortable in a bus.

I get the not wanting to drive around WDW thing, but we drove in July and were happy to have the option to drive when so inclined. Seems a small sacrifice to make for ultimate safety/health/less exposure to others.

That’s a good point. I agree that it’s safer to drive our own car but I’m afraid that will be a deal breaker (trip breaker) for DH. He just gets really aggravated in traffic.

I have used lyft in orlando and other cities and had no issues. My driver last time was a teacher making a few extra dollars on the side.
We have had drivers that did not speak english well but they were nice, cars were clean.

Driving around WDW should be a lot easier with the lower crowds. Signage is really good for getting to where you want. We love driving around WDW with the top down!

What are everyone's thoughts on staying at the wilderness cabins and getting to MK? They have the small boats and probably only let a few on a time...I see that taking forever, unless they have new bus transportation options? TIA

In regards to driving your own car. When driving in unfamiliar areas. Before the drive I bring up google maps and jot down notes. Things like "be in the right lane by this point to take the exit"

I used to hate the thought of driving around WDW!!! Man, there are some really crazy drivers out there. But, I no longer give it a thought! I've learned to take my time. If I end up in the wrong lane, then I just go with the flow. I can always turn around. I remember the time we drove from Tampa to WDW on Easter morning...wanted a few hours in MK before heading to MCO and home. Well, we made it to the TTC just fine. I plugged MCO into my GPS, and headed to the airport after breakfast. Well......I 'thought' I had followed the GPS directions perfectly. But, if I had, then how the heck did I end up at the entrance to Epcot!!!!! Seriously. I have an AP, so entered with the AP, and grabbed the next exit out!!! The road I wanted runs right beside the entrance to Epcot!!! Duh.
But, as you can see, you can always turn off and get back on track. I would just be sure to leave an addtl 15 or so mins to your travel time. That way your dh won't be so frustrated. I also like to just get in the car and drive around the area. Of course, don't do it at shift change times.....I ended up in the wrong lane and found myself headed to CM parking behind Epcot. Made a very sharp U turn!!!!!!
