Transportation from Nick Hotel

We are staying at the Nick Hotel. We have early admission tickets Islands of Adventure but my understanding is that the shuttles from Nick don't run that early. Has anyone used a cab or called Mears for pick up? There are 7 of us and we definitely want to get there early.
Also, how was the shuttle service to and from the hotel?
Any comments and/or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

The shuttle to Universal doesn't leave early. A cab will cost about $40, but you can ride the shuttle back.
