Transportation from John Wayne/Orange County to hotel

bumbershoot, I'm so sorry you had a bad visit! I hope it got better :flower3:

Aw thanks. Alas it didn't. DH and DS insist that they had fun but they weren't acting like it at the time. The heat and the crowds took it out of me. And now I see what people are talking about with the increase in line jumpers.

But the ride to the airport was good. :)

I haven't flown to Disneyland in roughly 25 years. I live in the Bay Area only about six hours away. I was even closer when I was stationed at both Camp Pendleton and Yuma, Az. So, I have always just driven, although I did ride Amtrak from Oceanside once.

But, we have decided to fly for our trip in late October, and will need transportation from SNA to DLH. From what I've read, a taxi seems to be the quickest and easiest. I do have a question, though. Is it best to just do the flat rate, or is it potentially cheaper to just use the meter? I'm really just asking out of curiosity, since I realize spending and extra $10 either way is really nothing in the scope of a Disney trip.

This thread has been really helpful to me. I have a silly question. I have only taken a taxi once so I am not really familiar with everything. Can you pay using a credit card or would it be better to just use cash?

Can I tack on a question? Are taxi vans readily available when you land later at night (10:30 pm)? I do have Uber on my phone so that is an option, too. Would I just use that app while I'm grabbing my bags? I also have 5 in my group. TIA.

Taxis are readily available when you land at 10:30PM. Last year when we went for Star Wars, there were a ton of taxis outside waiting for those that were arriving.

Either or. I used the credit card as they had a machine I could swipe in the back and didn't have to hand it over to them.

I would call the taxi company and ask what the flat rate is to the resort district. If it's more than about $45 then it's more expensive.

If you take Uber from SNA to Disneyland, where at the airport do they pick you up? Outside of baggage claim? Haven't been to that airport before so not sure how it's laid out. Thanks!

Yes, just outside baggage claim there's a taxi line. It is well controlled by the airport and a nicely dressed person will be standing there to direct you to the next taxi in line. It's a very efficient system!

I thought Uber wasn't allowed to line up with regular taxis, but maybe it's different at SNA?

Just letting everyone know we waited just a few minutes for a van taxi that would seat 5. Our driver was polite and gave us his card. We called him for a ride back when we left and he was on time. It worked great.

That's great! Can you give me an idea of what you paid each way? Thanks for the update. :)

I see a lot of people mentioning car seats and taxis. Does anyone know what the rules for CA are for carseats? We will be traveling with a six year old. Can we go in a taxi or do we need to have a carseat?

Child Car Seat
As of January 1, 2012, all children must ride in car seat or booster seat until they are at least 8 years old or at least 4 feet 9 inches tall. In addition, all kids younger than 8 years old, must be secured in the back seat.

Yup, you need a carseat unless you're traveling in a bus like the Disneyland Resort Express. That's what we're doing the end of August.

I did look up and find a private limo service that provides car seats and booster seats upon request, but it was about 50% more expensive. But if you want to pay more to get a direct ride, you can look into it - Lansky Limousine Service. There's probably others too, though I didn't search much further.

I think Sunny's Transportation provides child seats at no cost...you might want to check them out too.
We've had great experiences using their services.

You want the flat rate. There's no way it's going to be cheaper with the meter.
Actually, the flat rate is $45; metered from SNA to Desert Inn and Suites was $38 in Jan 2014. The driver told me he thought the meter would be cheaper. Sure enough, he was right. So, while the flat rate is often best, depending on the route the driver takes, meter *may* be less.

When we were in DC earlier this year, Uber had "Uber Family" which provided car seats. Might be worth a look.
