Hi all. My family and I are going on a disney cruise this December out of Galveston, TX. We are flying into Houston Hobby Airport a day early (THursday) and somehow getting to Galveston that day and spending the night in Galveston and boarding the cruise the next day (Friday). I have not researched how we are getting to Galveston. Could people share with me how they have done it in the past, including company names? I've looked at hotels and think we will stay at Hotel Galvez, unless anyone has a recommendation for that as well.

Thank you so much! This is all very new to me!

Many Thanks,
Angela

Harbor House hotel is literally across the street from the port. But it usually fills up quickly on the nights before departures.

We live in Dallas so we drive, but DCL quoted me $45 each per each way for transportation to ship, but that would be on your departure date.

There are lots of options - Google is your friend

Have a great time - were right behind you on Jan 4

We came in the day before and left the day after the cruise so we did one way car rentals with Enterprise, which I believe at the time was the only car rental company in Galveston (that was 2.5 yrs ago).

We are flying into Hobby 2 days early and plan on taking a taxi to a hotel in Galveston.

Disney does not provide transportation from/to Houston Hobby, so you will need to rent a car or hire a service. Enterprise, which is the only rental company currently on island, does not do 1 day rentals from the airport to Galveston, so you would need to keep the car and pay for parking and return it after the cruise. This might be more economical than a shuttle, depending on the size car you need.

That's going to be an expensive taxi ride. I'd recommend looking into a shuttle or one-way rental.

I'm considering the Dec 4 cruise out of Galveston, but the transportation situation is frightening. We always rent a car at MCO and drop off at the port. Car rental prices in Orlando are always cheap. Enterprise is the only car rental in Galveston. One way rental price is around 250.00. They have a 100.00 dollar drop off fee. You can rent a car at IAH and drop it off in Texas city. Cost I've got is 42.00 for a one day rental. Taxi ride to port about 50.00. Galveston shuttle is 25.00 per person and 22.50 if you use them round trip. Kids under 10 are less. Super shuttle was 368.00 round trip. I've checked on a 9 day rental and it was around 600.00 currently. I priced out some weeks in October and Nov because Dec is so far out. The lowest price I got was for next week and it was 300.00. I think car rentals in Houston are generally high they throw on some sports taxes and such things.
It's definitely not a easy port to sail out of.

I agree. I just costed out a 2 day one-way car rental from Hobby to Galveston, and the $100 drop off fee is a killer. As a family of 5 I think our best option is to take a taxi from Hobby to Galveston and a taxi back to Hobby after the cruise. We also plan a one day car rental while in Galveston.

We went out of Galveston in 2013. We ended up flying into IAH instead of Hobby though. We stayed at the Marriott that is at the airport, and there was a train/tram that did a loop from the hotel to the airport. We flew in the night before, stayed at the Marriott, the next morning took the train/tram back to the airport and found the area for the Disney Transportation Shuttle. We had never been to Houston, but the price was right for the cruise and it was very, very easy. The cruise desk in the airport terminal was a bit tough to find, since it was just setup temporarily. The bus was not a true "Disney" bus but it worked just fine. The port at Galveston also very small and very different than PC.

So this doesn't help you at all I'm afraid, since Hobby is where you are headed and not IAH. When we explored all of our options for Houston, even though this airport was not as close it was very easy to do. For those looking to travel out of Galveston in the future, keep this in mind.

Yesterday, DCL quoted me a price of $45 per person each way for our upcoming cruise.

From Hobby Airport?? (There are two airports in Houston area, I didnt think DCL did transport from Hobby but I am not sure)
Now that I think about it she didn't ask me which airport. We have two airports here in Dallas as well and that happens all the time.

We are a family of four flying in to Houston Hobby the night before our cruise as well. I ended up just doing a round trip car rental for the week from Budget and it is $187. We will drive the rental car to Galveston to our hotel. We are staying at the Hilton and it allows you to park your car at their hotel for free if you stay there one night. They shuttle you to and from the port. I wanted to have a car for the day we get back because our flight isn't until late that evening and I don't want to be stuck at the airport all day. After a lot of research, this seemed to be our best option. Hope that helps!

Are you going to spend the day in Galveston or Houston? (I used to live in Houston and cruised out of Galveston so just curious!)
