Hi i was wondering what type of transportation there is available if you are staying at the disney resorts and want to go to universal for the day?

Disney does not provide transportation, but you can rent a car for the day depending on where you are staying. You can rent a car at the Dolphin or from the car care center. You can get a shuttle from Mears or use a town car service.

You can take a taxi each way. When I asked for a price quote (from BC in Dec. 05) it was about $35/ea way to Universal, so we rented a car instead. For our Sept. trip, I've booked a 1 day rental from the Dolphin - its $35 incl. fees, so it's cheaper than a taxi (and more convenient, since we have it when we want it). We're staying at BWV, so Dolphin is easy to get to.

Public bus (www.golynx.com) would pick up in the TTC parking lot. You'd then have to ride that bus to downtown Orlando and transfer to a bus that goes near Universal. Cheap, but EXTREMELY time-consuming.

Anyone have experience renting if under 25? I know there's an additional fee, just trying to find out which method would be most cost-effective. Thanks!

A taxi would be the most time- and cost-effective transport from Disney property to Universal if you are going over there one day. For obvious reasons, Disney does not provide bus service to a competing theme park.

Option 1
Mears: $15.00 PP RT

The day before you wish to go to Universal call from your room phone or any Disney House phone dial "0". When the operator answers, ask to be transferred to Mears.

When Mears picks up, tell them you want to go to Universal the next day, how many in your party, what resort you are staying at, and approximately what time you wish to leave.

They will give you a pickup time, location, and a confirmation #. Be at the front of your resort 15 minutes before the time they state the next morning.

Pay the driver $15.00 PP CASH upon boarding. (If you know you want to use Mears, you can stop by the Mears desk at the airport and purchase the vouchers in advance with a credit card, but you still have to call for reservations the day before).

When you arrive at Universal, you can arrange with the driver for a pickup time right then or take the stub they give you with their phone # and call them 2 hours before you are ready to return to your resort.

Option 2:
Cab - Approximately $30 - 40 one way, up to 7 people (in a van taxi). Go to bell services of your resort when you wish to leave.

When you wish to leave Universal, go to the taxi stand in the Universal Guest Drop off area.

Option 3:
Many of the towncar services provide round trip transportation to Universal from Disney Resorts.

Must be arranged in advance. $50 - $65 RT, either towncar or van depending on number in your party.

Many people like Florida Tours or Tiffany Town Car.

Option 4:
About $3.00 per person, Lynx bus system.

Go to TTC and take Lynx bus, then transfer to Universal Lynx bus.

Go to Lynx website for exact bus #s and times. Takes about 3 hours each way.

Thanks for the tip about the Mears vouchers. I don't like to travel with a lot of cash and usually only bring enough to cover tips.

We have a towncar booked to/from MCO, so can't really justify the cost of two days at Universal on top of that.

In regards to Mears, I have been told that they require you to leave the park early.

Is that correct, or can you tell them the time you want to leave?
