my family decided yesterday to try to plan a trip to disney in two weeks- my mind is on overdrive planning.

what car rental places are near the train station- that we can rent a car????

i'm figuring it will be cheaper to rent a car for the week - than to pay a cab to and from the station- to our hotel

any ideas????

I am willing to bet that you can arrange for them to pick you up at the train station with reservations.

Are you arriving at the Orlando station or the Kissimmee station?

We are taking the train to Orlando next week and after much research I found that Hertz was the best bet for us....this is because they will pick us up no matter what time our train came in and when we leave we can just leave the car at a special place at the train station rather then taking back to the car rental place. Enterprise was cheaper and they would pick us up, but not if we got in after 6pm and we would have to take the car back to the car rental place...loosing some of our very valuable Disney vacation time. :D

WDWisTheBest we are arriving at the orlando station.

TandyR - what kind of rate did you get for hertz- i just called and got a rate on 575/wk for a midsize seems too expensive!!!!

if i try amother co- will they pick us up and drop us off at amtrak???

and since we really don't need a car- does anyone know what the approx cost of a ride from amtrak to the Dolphin Hotel???

or does anyone know of any good ride services to call to reserve ahead of time-

thanks- i'm trying to plan a wk trip for 5 in less than two weeks!!!!!

A. Is that $75 or $575? If $575, you can do much better.

A. I would use Hertz

575 was the rate i was just quoted at hertz for a midsize for 1 week.

are there any discount codes or specials that i can call in with to lower that rate???

thanks

We used Budget when we arrived at Orlando train station. This was years ago, but they picked all 6 of us up (free!) and took us to their office to do minivan rental paperwork. I got a cheaper rate by calling the actual location, not using internet or 800 number. It is possible this can no longer be done.

We liked the train, went coach from Newark NJ with 4 kids. It was an adventure, the kids are teens now, but will never forget it!

Best car rental info is at mousesavers of course.

We took a train several years ago and it was about the same for a taxi from the train station as it was from the airport. The only problem was that they were SLOW arriving. I had called ahead and confirmed for a pickup, but seeing as how the trains are always late (something I didn't know before) that preparation was useless. Just bring a good book and a sence of humor along and you'll be fine. Have a great time!

thanks for all the great advice!!!

i decided to go with tiffany towncar service-

If you happen to have a map, the Amtrak station is very close to the Orlando Regional Medical Center, which is almost downtown.

It is less than a mile from the Kaley Street Exit (81) from I-4. This means by taxi you would need about a mile to I-4, about 16 miles to the WDW exits, and then about five miles further to get to the Swolphin, so you are looking at about 22 miles. Since most of the cabs charge $1.75 for the flag drop and 25¢ per 1/7 mile, you are looking at roughly $40.00 on the meter.

If you are dealing with a company such as Tiffany, you can let them know the train number and they can check for updated arrival times on Amtrak's web site so they can meet you properly even if the train is late.
