Hi all

So during our stay at the Hojo we will be doing a small side trip to Knott's Berry Farm. I know that we can buy tour packages that include tour bus and entry but I would rather just buy entry tickets and find my own way there even though we won't have a car. Now the question is what is my own way there?

I suppose I could get a taxi, does anybody know how far and roughly how much that would be? Or could I get a bus? Is there some sort of shuttle to Knotts from somewhere?

Also, whilst you are reading this, does anybody know how I would get to Citadel outlets from the Hojo also (maybe by bus), without having to join a shopping tour?

The ride from Hojo's to Knott's is about 10-15 minutes, depending on traffic. I've not taken a cab between the two before, so I can't advise on what the fare would be, except that cab fare is never inexpensive.

Don't know if you're familiar with public transportation, but the 460 bus leaves from by the front entrance to the Park (across the street from Hojo's) & drops off across from the entrance to Knott's. Fare is around $2 each way. It's not the fanciest way to get there, but it's cheap & convenient. (I know; I've taken the 460 many a time.)

As for the Citadel shops...if you're not renting a car, the shopping tour option would probably be the best, as I'm not sure that there's an OCTA bus or a city bus that goes that route directly. And you probably won't want to carry around your purchases on a non-charter bus, either.

Thanks so much spacermaid.

So with the OCTA 460 (which I am more than happy to take) is it a very long trip? Considering that buses stop every few metres :rotfl: will it take me hours to get there?

Do you know roughly how far (as in minutes driving) the Citadel outlets are?

Thanks so much, appreciate your help :flower3:

No problem!

I should clarify, 460 is an L.A. city bus (not OCTA...it's kind of confusing, as both OCTA and L.A. city buses share that bus stop, and then there's the ART bus, which is a seperate thing entirely...). I've never had it take longer than 20 minutes to get from the bus stop in front of the Park to the bus stop near Knott's; usually it's 10 to 15 minutes...varies due to what time of day, what day of the week, etc.)

Here's a link to the Metro website; it has a Trip Planner feature where you can give the addresses/times & it'll map out the routes/prices. http://www.metro.net/ :thumbsup2

As for the Citadel, it's about a half hour drive on the freeway if traffic is light. If it's rush hour, it can be a :scared1: long time! Don't know if you've experienced SoCal traffic; that's what causes the huge variables in driving time.

Thanks again spacermaid. I think that the bus will be the go then. 20 mins or so is not too long - so long as I don't miss my stop :lmao:

I have experienced SoCal traffic actually - hence the reason I will not be driving :scared1:

Here is a coupon for $10 off Knotts Berry Farms tickets good for up to 6 people unless there is a coupon from Subways etc

By OCTA Bus headed up on Harbor Blvd to La Palma Ave changed bus and stops outside of Knotts Costs $4 for a day ticket other wise it is $1.50 per bus takes about 20 minutes or so.

Betterr than paying the $75 each the Aussie TA whats to charge.

Thanks darren

I am thinking that I might do the FC price match thing for Knotts. Total price on Expedia for all of us is $113.53, and then if I use 3 x $20 FC vouchers plus they take $1 each off it will bring the total price down to $50.53 ($16.85 each) - now that's not a bad price for a day out for all 3 of us :thumbsup2:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

No, I have never been to Knotts, is it good?

I thought about it last time but then decided against it. But we will go this time definately. I have seen some of the Knotts Christmas pics and they look like so much fun, and they have some great shows going on over the holiday period.

I also have to try one of those chicken dinners I keep hearing so much about :goodvibes

Haven't been to Knott's in a long time, not since the Knott family sold out, but I remember their "Knott's Merry Farm" season was pretty special. They also do a good job with "Knott's Scary Farm" (Halloween).

If you go, be sure to check out Mystery Lodge, a show which was transplanted from the 1986 Vancouver World's Fair.

It'll be pretty much impossible to miss your stop...you can tell you're at Knott's when you see all the giant rollercoasters!

I am from SoCal, and the traffic is :scared1: to me...I can only imagine how scary/unpleasant it would be if one had never experienced it before & was having to drive in it!

I see that you've not been to Knott's yet...you must try the chicken dinner! And a funnel cake! And the berry punch! The Old West style stunt show (in an outdoor theater where some of the seats are in Conestoga wagons) is a must see, as are the Mine Train ride and the Log Ride. I'm sure you'll have a fabulous time!

If if it turns out you can't get that deal on admission you mentioned, or don't want to use the vouchers for KBF, remember that you will probably be visiting on a Toys for Tots day. The bad news is that you might not be able to buy an e-ticket from outside the U.S. However, you could buy a toy at KBF before opening.

Thanks so much guys.

spacermaid, all those things sound like so much fun. I am really excited about going to Knott's now :thumbsup2

Thanks for the info perlster. I will definately keep that in mind if I can't pre-purchase the tickets from Flight Centre. It's not usually a problem getting e-tickets, especially if I give the address of the hotel that I am staying at.

Thanks again :flower3:

Another Option would be to go to the Discount Ticket Outlet at Garden Walk and buy the ticket and bus together. Think it is about the price of only the park admission. A bus picks you up at your hotel and takes you to another bus dispatch place and you go from there. Very convinent - did this for UNiversal Studios :)
