Transport chair vs. WC?

We've been thinking about bringing the transport chair instead of the WC because of the weight, ease, etc. Has anyone used a transport chair instead of a WC? Pros and cons?

Thanks!

A Transport chair is usually a bit lower in the handles, so not as comfortable to push, also not as comfortable to sit in for extended periods, and because the wheels are usually small, not as good at uneven terrain, like in the parks.

Let me start out by saying the transport chair we have is among the lightest out there for an adult chair at 16 pounds. Our back wheels are taller than our front which helps out on pushing and manuevering. My mom weighs 110 pounds and the transport chair is rated for 300 pounds. We have an air cushion for the seat, now, but at the time of the Disney trip we did not. We did it for 9 days and I would say we averaged 10 hours a day at the parks. I will say it's best to stay away from cobblestone surfaces and go slower if you must be in those areas of such pavements.

I didn't think anything of it. Not a single time did it cause a problem. I will say a few times hubby took over on the buses, etc. but in the parks I manned it all day. We went up some hills like for Fantasmic and the Beauty and the Beast show. I'm 56 and I have bad knees and I was able to do it.

A few years back we took our MIL in a regular wheelchair. I couldn't do it; she's heavier than my mom. I think the regular wheelchair went over 30 pounds and she was about 50 pounds heavier herself. Once we got to the parks she was able to scooter; so, it was okay.

Also, with the smaller wheels, beware of the trolley tracks on Main Street.

I can't imagine doing it in a transport chair just because of all the uneven ground etc. Its hard enough getting around in a wheel-chair, never-mind trolley tracks, getting on and off of boats, monorails, all doorways etc.

I would think this is the time you want to use the regular chair for sure-> When you know there is going to be alot of walking and you'll out and about all day.

I also find my regular wheel-chair alot better for transfers. How is she/he about that? or if they are not tranfering about getting up and down from the chair is it the right height? is the seat and armrests sturdy enough to make it comfortable?

Alot will depend on your transport chair too. Something like this transport chair with sturdy armrests and big rear wheels would be better than most:
