Does anyone have transitions lenses (you know, where you go outside and they're sunglasses, but inside they're normal)? Are they worth the $$? My SIL has them and says she likes them.

I was thinking about getting those sunglasses that fit OVER my glasses, but I don't want to look 85 years old :rotfl:. I have had the clip on shades before- and I didn't love those.

What do you have?

I have Transitions lenses and I really like them. I will say tho, that it they sometimes dont change in the car and it takes a lil while to adjust from going from outside to inside but its not enough of a annoyance for me not to get them again when this prescription is up.
Hope this helps.

I have them and absolutely love them...they have 2 colors the brown/tan which I have and the smoke/black. The black/smoke goes darker than the brown/tan so if you are going to wear them in alot of direct sun that would be my suggestion. My Eye doctor actually suggested the black to me because of my light sensitivity but I opted for the brown because it matches my frames when it changes.

2 MAJOR things to take into consideration are:

1- They DO NOT turn while in the car. So if you are looking for sunglasses/protection in your car they do not work while inside through the windshield.

2- They take about 3-5 minutes to clear up when going from sun to inside. The darker they get while in the sun the longer it takes to clear up. One of the reasons I went with the brown. It is definately something to get used to, not hard but is a consideration. Also if you are quickly going from outside in direct sun like in Adventurland to a VERY dark area like Pirates of the Carribean you have to be careful while they are adjusting.

Still I love these lenses and will only get these in every pair I get! Hope this helps.

My husband has them on one pair of his glasses. He always switches to prescription sunglasses when he is in the car and the sun is bright. They do take a little bit of time to change to clear when he comes in from outside but it's only a matter of minutes. However, he has had many pairs over the years and he continues to get the transitions, so he must feel that it's worth the added expense.

I still wear contact lenses and I just have regular sunglasses.

My DD8 just got her first glasses and we got transition lenses. They darken from UV light so even though it would be overcast outside her glasses would be dark or smoky. Then when she came inside they would take "a while" to return to normal so she would take them off. We have had them replaced with normal lenses. I have the clip on shades for when I where glasses. I'll normally wear contacts with sunglasses for hanging at the pool, beach, amusement parks, etc.

See qvc.com for some more stylish over-the-glasses sunglasses - just as an option. If you order today (6/13), everything online comes with five easy payments.

I got them for my DD8, and she loves them. They work great especially when she is outside playing or walking around WDW in the bright sun.:thumbsup2

I have them and LOVE them. Got them for Zenni Optical for about $45. I also got a pair of prescription sunglasses for about $15 from Zenni for driving.

I don't mind looking 85 wearing sunglasses over my glasses :rotfl2: (but I only do that while driving in a car)
but my kids want to hide :rolleyes1

I keep my sunglasses in the car so it's nice and handy to put them on because my transition lenses don't work in the car.

I LOVE transition lenses

I just got them a couple of months ago. They are great in bright sunlight... first time I have been able to look at stuff in bright sunlight that is both clear in focus and not too bright.

Got them several months ago.

I like them, and it's not hard getting used to coming inside from the bright light.

Once disadvantage....it's very hard reading text messages outside.

My mom and grandfather both had them and hated them, because they weren't good for the time they most wanted sunglasses (driving) and because of the time it takes for them to change. I don't think they'd be so bad if you were able to do without for a couple minutes to let them adjust but we're all blind as bats around here so even a few minutes to let them transition is a headache.

What I did for DH and DD is order dedicated prescription sunglasses from Zenni Optical online. A whole pair of glasses cost less than the Transitions tint upgrade, and I think it works out better for them both.

What do you have?

1) They only change if direct sunlight hits them, so if it's a sunny day and I'm driving I have to sit them directly on the dashboard for a minute to get them to change.

2) takes way to long for them to transition from outdoors to indoor light.

We have transitions for myself, DH and DD8 and we love them. Well worth the $$. I found the clip ons and ones that go over your glasses uncomfortable and it was a hassle changing from regular glasses to prescription sunglasses everytime you went out or came inside. So these are a great solution. Also for DD8, I don't have to worry whether her eyes are protected as they automatically are!
For driving, you either have to hold them on the dash for a minute in the direct sun or stay outside in the direct sun for a minute before getting in and driving -much easier and more comfortable than the alternatives.

I have had them in the past and no I will not get them again. They never turned when I was driving - when i needed it the most. Now I use either the slide ons(cant really call them clip ons the pull apart and then slide over your frames) alot of people cant even tell you have them on. Now I have sunglasses that go over my reg glasses they have "driving lens" in them no they dont look like they are for 80 yr olds im almost 34 and I would not wear anything like them (on a side note my dd whos 12 kept stealing mine for her softball games so I got her a pair) they have them at cvs/rite aid for around $20 all different shapes and sizes the trick is to find the ones that fit the best over your glasses I cant even feel when I have mine on. hth

I love them. They are great especially for going to Disney. I remember way back when, before I got them, I had to bring two pairs of glasses to the theme parks. Regular for indoor use and a pair of prescription sunglasses for outdoor use. It was really a pain because I had to constantly switch them back and forth. With transitions, I just wear one pair of glasses and no more worrying about the 2nd pair.

I just picked up my transitions this week. The place I went has 2 types of transitions and one would change in the car. It was a newer product that just came out a few months ago. So far I love my new glasses.

The newer, more expensive, brand/models of darkening lenses will darken in a car. They also darken quicker then older lenses.

I get them for my kids every time but I never get them for myself. I figure my kids can't wear sunglasses because they have to wear their regular glasses all the time so it's not right not NOT get the transitions for them. I'm not about to trust them with a second pair of prescription glasses to switch back and forth and I figure if I get them the kinds of glasses with a fitted clip on thing then they'll either lose the clip on thing or they'll scratch the heck out of their glasses getting it on and off.

I've bought glasses that have custom fitted clip on things. I'm not a fan. I like small glasses for everyday wear. This means that when I clip the thing on that not much sun is being blocked. I now just have separate prescription sun glasses. My sun glasses are large and block a lot of light all around while I still have my small every day glasses. I need sunglasses for driving so the transitions just wouldn't cut it for me as they don't work well in cars. I was told that's because they need UV rays to turn but the car windows have UV protection on them. I don't know if that really is the reason or not but it made sense to me. My prescription doesn't change so I only get new glasses maybe every 4-5 years. It was worth it to me to buy the separate sun glasses and I haven't regretted it once. I keep the sunglass case in my purse and when I put them on I just put my regular glasses in the big sunglass case.

ETA: Next time I decide it's time for a change, I'll have to ask about the transitions that work in the car being discussed here, but I think I'll still want my two separate glasses just because I really do like big sunglasses and small regular glasses.
