Transitioning to no naps?

I like some of the suggestions that I have read and might even try some with my DS4. He does have "down time" at pre-school and lays on a cot. I'm assuming there are times he does nap and times where he doesn't. At home though, he usually doesn't take a nap anymore.

OP, I can definately relate. DS4 will also get very crabby/cranky when he really needs to take a nap but doesn't. I honestly think he's afraid of missing out on something.

The last time he had a bad one was in Epcot back in October. We had lunch ADRs for Teppanyaki's and DS4 gave us such a hassle that we almost didn't make it. He was literally kicking and screaming. DH and I were really trying not to lose our tempers, but that was quickly diminishing :headache: . I figured he was really tired and was refusing to take a nap (I can understand that since it was his first time in Disney). We finally got him to calm down by getting him a drink he asked us for. Just made it to our ressies in time. A few minutes after our lunch was cooked, DS4 "crashed" and was out like a light. Ahhhhh, finally peace and quiet :cloud9: He was much better after his nap.

My DD stopped napping at about 3 and DS was about 2 1/2 when he stopped. I did still have some down time with a video though.

DD's were 3 and 4 when we went on our Disney Cruise. The 4 year old was done with naps, the 3 year old still needed them. Some days we were able to get her to take a nap in the cabin with DH while I took the 4 year old to do something else, some days she did not get a nap and ended up falling alseep on the tender back from St. Thomas one day, and falling asleep at dinner twice.

There are SO many days where I wish my kids were still little enough to take a nap! :rotfl2: Honestly my almost 8 year old drove me insane this weekend with the incessant crying and the hissy fit after hissy fit!

Our youngest fell asleep on our 1st Disney Cruise mid bite of his chicken nuggets. He literally put his head on the table, bit the chicken was in "mid chew" and zonk! It was a really funny video moment! And to top it off our server was so great he used a spoon and spooned the chicken out of his mouth before we had a chance! Needless to say he got a HUGE tip! ;)

DS4 fell asleep at a dinner as well. He was so exhausted from doing MK and EMH on a Sunday then doing MGM the next day, that he fell asleep at 50's Prime Time. Our waitress couldn't believe that he fell asleep, especially in the position he managed to curl himself into  That instance though, he wasn't cranky before hand.

It may help to move the bedtime up also. When DD was 2.5, she gave up naps for the most part. We still did a movie after lunch for "quiet time", but most of the time she would stay awake. But since she was cranky by 8pm, I moved her bedtime up from 9pm to 8pm.

Of course, for about a year after that, I could not put her in the car anytime between 3pm and 7pm, or she was sure to fall asleep, and then wouldn't go to bed until 11pm!

I'm a mean mommy my DD7 has been going to bed at 8pm since she was 3 - before that it was 7pm. I don't care when she falls asleep but that's the time I need her to go to bed :rotfl: . At this point she'll read until almost 9 and then fall asleep. She used to sing along with a CD.

We're mean too then! Our kids had an 8pm bedtime until they were 5 *before that it was 7 or 7:30 depending* and then from 5-7 it was 8:30 and now bedtime is 9pm or earlier depending on homework load and other "issues". I have a 13 yr old, almost 12 yr old and almost 8 yr old and the latest for them is 9 on school nights and 9:30 on weekends *10 sometimes for oldest*

They NEED sleep! They don't think they do but they do!
