I just came back from WDW and will be going to DL soon so I was on both websites comparing rides and noticed that DL doesn't have the Peoplemover. Did DL ever have this attraction? I was at DL as a child and seem to remember being on it but maybe I'm mixing up that trip with one to WDW.

They did, but they took it out a while ago. They put in a Rocket Ride along the same path, but it was always having problems so they took that one out too.

My daughter loved this ride at WDW a few years ago....ive always liked it too as a relaxer and its usually a walk on.

Not sure when DL removed it or why? Ive got pictures of me riding it in 1995, but i dont think it was there in 2004 my last trip to DL.

They need to bring it back ASAP. To see the valuable space inside DL just being wasted like it is, makes no sense. You have that track just sitting there reminding people of the great attraction that used to be, but now looks like it's an abandoned property or something. To me seeing that track just sit there and basically rot away, is a monument to the failed management of the company back in the 1990's and early part of this past decade. Cynthia Harris, Paul Pressler, and lets not forget Micheal Eisner who had a hand in letting DL slip in quality and appearance just to rake in the quick buck. Thank God that the park and DCA is far better shape than what is was just 10 years ago.

I hope Disney brings the ride back in an updated way like the did with the Nemo subs and put the Astro Orbiter back up on that platform where it belongs.

LOL, Imagine what everyone was feeling at MK in WDW? Staring at an empty lagoon (later a grass lot) for 12 years with no submarines to explore it with. At least DL has a few more attractions so it could absorb being down a major attraction for a bit.
WDW has been absolutly crippled...
Did the astro orbiter in DL used to be on a platform too? Wonder what the reasoning was behind that move?

Actually 10 years ago, give or take a few years, wasn't really good times for neither DL or WDW. It was obvious that the Eisner era needed to come to a close and thank God it did. WDW had closed the sub ride at MK, but it had an advantage over DL in that it was such a bigger park that it was easier for it absorb the closing of a major attraction. WDW has 3 other parks spread out over the property so that there's other attractions to go on. The management back then didn't care about closing the sub ride because there was so much other stuff to do. I wouldn't say WDW is crippled and that's pretty far fetched. When you have 47 square miles with 4 parks and thousands upon thousands of Disney owned hotel rooms, I wouldn't use the term crippled. Do they need too add more attractions and update what they have? Yes and hopefully the MK expansion will be a hit and time will tell.

At DL when the subs closed as did the people mover, you're talking about a major part of the park and when SM went down for it's rebuild a few years ago, there was a big hole of emptiness. Thankfully that has all changed and for the better too. Both parks on either coast are getting money poured into them and that's a good thing. As for the Astro Orbiter being moved off that platform, that was another Paul Pressler blunder and part of the bronzed colored, 1998 Tomorrowland makeover. Hopefully Disney will come to it's senses and realise what an obstruction it is to have that ride where it is now. Here's a link below to Yesterland and how the area looked back before the makeover. The people mover definitely needs to come back and would be a huge hit for the park and a big bonus for us fans.

I loved that rocket ride that replaced the people mover.!

It was a poor choice to replace the PM with it though. The Rocket Rods is a ride that needs it's very own track layout with high banking turns and due to budget cutbacks, they didn't give it that. The PM track was never designed to accommodate a fast moving thrill ride and the constant slowing down and speeding up took a toll on the Rocket Rod cars.

Yes, Astro Orbiter was on top of the platform that also served as the loading area for the People Mover. When Rocket Rods replaced People Mover, Astro Orbiter was moved and refurbished to its current location at the enterance to Tomorrowland.

Rocket Rods died a quick death and the track, platform etc. has sat unused ever since. Well except for the decorative contraption with satellite dish looking things above the platform that moves around every so often.

I hope Disney brings the ride back in an updated way like the did with the Nemo subs and put the Astro Orbiter back up on that platform where it belongs.

This will make us all happy :thumbsup2

I miss the People Mover and getting to peek inside Space Mountain, so I could pretend that I had ridden it when I was too scared to go near it in reality. Supposedly it was haunted, too.

A cast member (at the Astro Orbiter maybe?) told me in February when we were there that the people mover was coming back :thumbsup2 so here's hoping!

If I understand you correctly, the Astro Orbiter is on the ground? Then what makes this any different from Dumbo than the vehicle in which you fly? DH is not too happy with this. That's one of his favorite rides at WDW. He says that's one ride we can skip if it's not high up in the air. Such a weird move on their part. Don't they know that the astrosphere is WAY up there? Oh well.

Yeah, it sucks that they moved it to the ground...it was a dumb idea and I think I speak for most of us when I say we would love for the rocket jets to be moved back up to where they belong. Hopefully this will happen down the road during a Tomorrowland renovation....

However, I can say this...even though it's on the ground, it is still slightly different than Dumbo. The jets go up higher and spin faster. You also are sitting at more of a tilt than you are on Dumbo which makes it feel kind of weird. Not to say that it even comes close to the experience of being way high up on a platform, but there ya go. :)
