Transfusions while at Walt Disney World

My Son-In-Law has a rare auto immune disease where his body doesn't build blood. He normally has transfusions of blood or platelets at least once or twice a week. He is on the bone marrow transplant list we are waiting for a donor. If they find one he will have to be in isolation for a month and away from home for another 2 or 3 months and won't get to see his children. He has been fighting this for over a year and we hoped by now he would be doing better and had planned a vacation in December last January. The doctors are encouraging him to go if he is up to it and spend some time with his children they are 5 and 8.

We plan on getting a ECV for him as he does get tired real easy and will be staying at BLT so we can go back and rest each day. We will be traveling out on a thursday and coming home on friday.

Here is my question has anyone ever had to setup treatments or transfusions for while they are at Disney World. At home in Utah he actually normally goes to a IV Cancer unit to get his blood. Is there anywhere close to WDW that we could have something set up so he could get a CBC and then they could call his doctor and order a transfusion if he needs it.

We are talking to his doctor also to see if she could write up orders ahead of time if he needs it.

Thanks for any help

Those things would need to be ordered by a doctor who is licensed to practice medicine in Florida.

If the Cancer Center he is getting his therapy at has a Social Worker, that would be the person best able to help you. They would be able to get a referral to a center in Florida that could care for him and also get the insurance/billing issues worked out.

Hope you get everything arranged and he has a great time.

I get a different sort of infusion (gamma globulin which is plasma derived), but I was able to get care at the hospital in Celebration, which was very close to WDW. They were super helpful, and used to dealing with tourists from all over the world.
