Transfers to NY Port

Hi - we are flying into Newark and going to the Manhattan Port for a trip on the Magic in October. The Disney transportation from Newark are $35 or $40 per person each way. Can anyone tell me what kind of transportation it is? Is it similar to the DCL buses they use at Port Canaveral or is it just a contract company? Are there benefits to using their transportation? I like the idea of meeting them at the airport and not worrying about making our way there. But, the expense is much more than a taxi. Thanks!

We are cruising on NCL out of NYC in October and their buses won't even pick up at Newark -- only LaGuardia. So if Disney picks up at Newark, I would say it's worth the price not to have the hassle of taxis or shuttles or trains.

I just talked to DCL, they do not offer ground transfers for Newark Liberty EWR. I was just planning on taking the New Jersey Transit train to NY Penn Station. For those with actual experience, is there a better way?

I think the train is the most efficient and cost-effective way to go. Some people have walked from Penn Station to the port, but I would not recommend it with luggage. A taxi should not cost much. We drove in last time and are driving this time which is the most efficient means for us.

It is odd that these cruise lines don't offer anything from Newark since it is a much more popular (and nicer) airport than LaGuardia.

We're planning to Uber. According to this estimate calculator: https://www.uber.com/fare-estimate/ It looks like an UberXL is estimating $55-$65 for the trip from EWR to the port. (The port address is 711 12th Avenue, New York, NY). The other option is to take the train from EWR into Penn Station New York, which is $13 per adult and $9 per child, and then take a taxi from Penn to the port. But the price is about the same at that point for the 4 of us, and will likely take longer because of the transfer from train to taxi.
