Hii :-)

Thomas cook are charging us £60 for transfers, that's for 2 of us from airport and back.

We are staying on Idrive Quality Inn (now the Rosen Inn)

Just wondering if we are being ripped off and if a taxi would be much cheaper?

Thanks! :-)

you'll be coming into Sanford I'm guessing, which is further than the other orlando airport MCO. It's quite a journey about an hour if i remember so i think 60 quid return is a fair price - i don't think you would get a return taxi for that price but I could be wrong, someone else may suggest a cheaper way. We also are looking at Thomas Cook and the 3 of us will be over 100 quid but i think still cheaper than a taxi as I saw the brochure price as 35 each. :)

TC are flying into MCO next year.

If that is for transfer by coach, it is a bit pricey. You could get a town car service for not much more, which would be faster and more comfortable. Try Florida Town Car or Tiffany Town Car. They wait for you at the place you collect your suitcase and take you straight to your hotel.

FL Tours(DIS sponsors) quote here

Total Price:
$119.00

Recommended Driver Gratuity:
$11.90
This is the suggested gratuity that should be paid directly to your driver. You will have two drivers for your trip.
The standard gratuity for each driver is 10% = $11.90

Not sure how that compares to the others but quite a lot more than a taxi, I don't get the 10% of total round trip for both drivers, they only go one way, do they all expect that?

That does seem odd. It would work out at 20% tip per driver if that is a round trip. I think the other town car services are a similar price. I would google them and check for their tipping policies.

Town car services may work out slightly more than a taxi, but I find the more comfortable cars and convenience of having them waiting for you at the airport more than worth it. I use them instead of the free Magical Express even if I'm staying in Disney because they get me to my resort so much faster.

But everyone is different. I prefer to save time. Some folks prefer to save the money to spend on other things while they are there.

With regards the tipping of drivers for transfers, a round trip is when they take you from airport to hotel but then return to take you from hotel to airport for your departure. As the driver may be different for each of these trips, a company may suggest you tip each driver independently. Some will advise of a suggested rate of tip, e.g 10% each way. Star-trans VIP have a set gratuity rate of 20% each way. I've heard Mears Shuttle is reliable and cost effective. Have never used it myself but most of the cabs I used when in Florida which we just picked up at the parks as and when we needed them were Mears cabs so they are a VERY reputable firm. Hope that helps. If not, am sure someone else on here will know :)
