Transferring points seems extraordinarily complex, although it should be simple.

Does anyone have a guide as to how the transfer process works.

I have made a number of calls to QAM, Disney res., etc. and they seem to be confused when the issues are non-standard.

For example, If my use year begins in Apr. 05 and I transfer points to someone who has a Sept. 05 use year, when do these points expire?

Some people say Sept. 05 and some people say Apr. 05.

What if someone had a January use year and it is Feb. Does that mean that they can't have points tranferred in?

Technically, you cannot transfer borrowed points. How do you transfer 2006 use year points if your points don't begin until Dec. 2006? Some say that it doesn't matter and you can transfer it anyway. Some say that since these are "borrowed" you can't tranfer them at all.

Any help on these issues, or a possible sticky tread by the moderator would help.

Thanks all

Well, reading that link gave me a real headache!!!!

I have a feeling that I won't transfer many points.

MS's computer system can not retain the original UY like they should so when points are transfered they will be placed and receive the UY of the recipent. You should be able to choose which UY they will be placed. I copied a quote from disneyberry's thread that should answer your question. The first half of his post has the offical rules (that you might have gotten your headache on) but the second half has the reality of the MS system (at least as of last year).

IMPORTANT: If the Transferrer and Recipient do not have matching Use Years, then the Recipient may not have a full year (12mos) of use out of the Transferred Points. This is because when a Transfer is performed, MS' system cannot track the Originating Member's UY, so they will arbitrarily choose a UY in the Recipient's account to put the points into. Recent (spring 2005) experiences posted here on the DISboards indicate that MS might follow the following guideline when deciding which UY to put the points into: "If the Recipient is 6 months or less into their current UY, then the points go into their current UY. If the Recipient is beyond 6 months, MS will put the points into the following UY." If you are the Recipient, and want more control over which UY the transferred points go into, please remember to specify which Use Year you want the points Transferred into. Example: Transferrer has a Sep UY, Recipient has a Apr UY. If the transfer is done today Jun05, and the Transferror wants to Transfer out Sep05 points, then the Recipient has a choice to receive points into their Apr05 UY (making the points only valid from 9/1/05 to 3/31/06) OR their Apr06 UY (making the points only valid from 4/1/06 to 8/31/06).
