Transferring Points?

It just occurred to me today that we might actually need to rent a villa for our 2006 trip. I figure that we'll probably want to try to call at the 11 month window to make sure we get what we want, but I also just realized that we don't have enough points.

We have a February use year, and would want to travel in Sept. 2006. If we had points transferred from another member into our account in October 2005, would those points expire in February 2006? Also, would the points become points from my home resort (SSR) or stay points from wherever they came from originally?

Transferred points are supposed to retain their original home resort and use year. Practically speaking (due to the current MS computer system), that doesn't always happen. I believe the current "tracking glitch" will be corrected with the upcoming upgrade.

In your position, I would do the following:

Make sure that the points I rented and planned to transfer to my account were from the resort I for which I need the 11 month window. I would also make sure that the points I rented will be valid for a September 2006 stay.

When I call MS to make the transfer, I would tell the CM that I plann to use the points to make a reservation for September, 2006. If possible, I would make the reservation with the same CM as soon as the transfer was completed. I would make sure to write down the transfer confirmation number.

MS will put the points into your 2006 use year so that they can be used to make the September 2006 reservation.
