Transferring Points

Hello All,

I was hoping someone could help me with a question. I have two separate contacts each with their own member numbers. One is a December use year, the other is a February use year. My December contract just got loaded with it's 2020 points. My February contract just received it's 2021 points. I just called Member Services to transfer my points so I can book at 7 months and was told it's not possible because one is 2020 and the other 2021. I thought I was able to transfer once per year between accounts. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there any sort of workaround for this?

You can once per UY. It goes by the UY of the points, but I don’t think you can go backwards.

I transferred June 2020 into a Dec 2019 UY, but it counted as my 2020 UY transfer for both.

I think since you are in Feb 2021 already, thats preventing the 2020 points going in as your 2020 UY is over. I do think you could transfer the 2021 Feb UY points to your Dec 2020 UY and they would be good until the end of January 2022, which you can then book together.

Or you can do is book some nights on one and some on the other and have MS link them.

As far as I know, you can only transfer from Feb to Dec between Dec 1st to Jan 31st.

So, in your case, you can transfer your Feb 2020 points to Dec 2020 points as long as you do it between Dec 1, 2020 to Jan 31, 2021.

I don't believe you can transfer from Dec 2020 to Feb 2021 since they are not the same year.

This is my understanding. I have not made any transfers, but this was explained to me several years ago when I was trying to make a non-Home priority reservation without splitting then linking....(I've always had issues in the past with AKV when it comes to linking 2 reservations - thankfully they're better now).

When you transferred your June 2020 points in March 2020, you haven't started June 2020....so technically you were still in June 2019 UY. So, it was okay for you to be in June 2019 UY and transfer points to Dec 2019 UY since you were still in 2019. I'm not sure if I'm explaining that properly.

The only way the OP can transfer Feb 2021 UY points to the Dec UY points is to wait until OP is in the Dec 2021 UY. This means between Dec 1, 2021 to Jan 31, 2022.

Regardless of whether the OP wants to transfer from Feb to Dec or Dec to Feb UY, the window is only open when both UY is on the same year ie. Dec 2020 and Feb 2020. And the only time the OP is in the same year is between Dec 1st and Jan 31st.

I think the only way the OP can transfer between now and Nov 30th is if they are permitted to transfer Feb 2021 points to Dec 2021 points, then borrow it to Dec 2020 UY in order to use it now.

Yes, this would be correct. But, since the points transferred into the Dec UY are 2021 points, they would count as the 2021 UY transfer for both memberships. Since the OP owns both, MS does allow more than one, but if it was between two different owners, it would count like that. So, even though when the points entered the account it was the Dec 2020 UY, its okay because the points are 2021.

The reason the 2020 Dec UY points could not go to Feb UY is because it had already entered its 2021 UY...had it not, they could have been transferred to them. Now, the OP could transfer Dec 2021 UY points to February today, and it would still be considered the 2021 transfer, but those points could not be used for trip until December 1st, 2021

As long as the trip you want to use them for is covered during the dates of the points you transfer, it will work!

It sounds like I could have done what I requested when I tried to transfer years ago. It's my fault I didn't call back to verify with another CM. It did make sense when she explained it (that I can only transfer when it's currently the same year).

Transfers may be made from/to the current and next Use Year. If both memberships are already in the same Use Year, the transfer is very straightforward (Home Resort and Use Year status will be retained for the transferred points).

In the case of wanting to transfer points from the Feb, 2021 Use Year - they can only go into another Membership's 2021 Use Year. Feb, 2021 cannot be transferred into a 2020 Use Year.

At the present time anyone could receive 2021 Use Year points as everyone is in their 2020 Use Year EXCEPT those with a FEBRUARY Use Year since the are now in their 2021 Use Year. At this time, Members with a February Use Year could transfer/accept points from their 2021 and 2022 Use Year but they would not be able to transfer 2022 points into any membership not yet in their 2021 Use Year.

Those still in their 2020 Use Year may transfer/accept points from the 2020 and 2021 Use Years.

Those now in their Feb 2021 Use Year may only transfer/accept points from the 2021 and 2022 Use Year. No one still in their 2020 Use Year could accept a transfer of Feb, 2022 Use Year points.

Yes, as long as the points are not banked or borrowed. You can not transfer points, even between your own memberships if they are.

You have to call to do it, but then can book online with them. Just be aware that before you can use transferred points, you have to use up all banked or borrowed points first for the membership that the points went to.

Once transferred the points can be banked, but they do keep their own UY. For example if I wanted to transfer my Aug UY points to Dec, those points would still only be good for trips to July 31st unless banked.

This is the way I think of it: A transfer can only be made into and out of the SAME YEAR. So Feb 2021 points cannot be transferred into Dec 2020... they would need to be transferred into the other membership's (Dec) 2021 UY. Take the month out of the equation. The year is what counts. And in reality, the transferred points are still their original use year (ie the transferred Feb 2021 points are NOT re-labeled as Dec 2021 points, they are still labelled with their original UY of Feb 2021 and their original lifespan remains the same from Feb 1, 2021 to Jan 31, 2022 (though they can be banked to Feb 2022, meaning they could be used from Feb 1, 2022 to Jan 31, 2023).

In your situation, you could have transferred your Dec 2020 points to your Feb 2020 UY BEFORE Jan 31, 2020 when both your memberships were still in 2020 UY. Now that you are past your Feb 2020 UY, you can only transfer 2021 points into or out of Feb 2021 or Feb 2022. So I would transfer your Feb 2021 points into your Dec membership. They will be transferred into the 2021 UY. Now you can use the Feb 2021 points with the Dec 2020 points together for a single reservation between Feb 1, 2021 and Nov 30, 2021. This will count as your allowed transfer for 2021 for both of your memberships. Does that make sense?

I think the confusion is that your Fev 2021 UY points are being transferred into your Dec 2021 UY in terms of you are getting 2021 UY points.

However, because transferred points keep their own UY, they will be valid for trips that take place in the Dec 2020 and Dec 2021 UY.

That is why my June 2020 UY points that are in my Dec UY counted as going in into my 2020 UY, but were still eligible for trips based on the June UY. I was not restricted to using them before Dec 1st, 2020.

So, technically, I was using them in my Dec 2019 UY, but it counted as my Dec 2020 UY one.
