Transferring Points Risks

Transfer of points for money is against the DVC rules. Selling tickets to a sporting event for more than the face value of the tickets is against the law in most States...especially if the transaction occurs at the place of the sporting event. Perhaps one could "give" the points to a friend and sell them a pencil or a picture drawn by your child for an agreed upon amount that might, coincidentally, equal the same amount as the points x $/pt? I have heard of people doing this type of transaction regarding tickets to a sporting event. Of course, I would not dream of doing this! :rolleyes1

I have not done a points transfer yet, but I can definitely see the allure of it. I honestly wouldn't feel comfortable doing a true rental transaction, but I like the idea of the finality of a points transfer. Once it's done, it's done.

Honestly, I don't think most people, particularly regulars on this board, would welch on a transfer. I can understand why some people would prefer half the money before the transfer and half after it is completed, and why some prefer all in advance. For me, I guess it would depend on how long I'd felt like I'd "known" the person (seen them posting and had some sense of them) and how large a transfer it was.

I took a point transfer with March '09 UY, and banked to use in 2010. If the member I took the transfer from does not pay dues, or defaults on loan in 2010, which apply to that contract, can DVC cancel the reservations I made with those points?

Concerned as the seller about the risks...For me, transfer seems much less worry free than renting...

In my opinion, perhaps another selling point of DVC could be for MS to officially allow "one cash transfer" per yr to another member and MS could help orchestrate the transfer! That would be awesome for those that have extra points who may want to transfer one yr!:woohoo::woohoo:
