Transferring Points or Reservations?

Member A has points that expire Dec 31 but wants to "exchange" for a spring trip.

Member B wants a trip in Nov and will have points that Member A can use.

Can Member A make a reservatiion for Member B and then transfer the reservation and points to Member B?

Or, is it "cleaner" for Member A to make ressie for B, and vise versa, without actually transferring the points?

The way the use years line up, transfers could happen between Members A and B in two different use years for each. I noticed only one transfer per year is allowed. Does the sale / purchase of a DVC membership count as a transfer in this sense?

Thanks for any help.

As long as the transfers are in different use years, A could transfer points to B and then B could transfer points to A without any need of each making a reservation for the other--once B has A's points B makes the ressie. Alternatively, A could make a reservation and put B's name on it (no real transfer of anything except confirmation notice--B just shows up for the ressie) and vice versa.

Also, forgot to mention a sale or puchase of an ownership interest in DVC does not count as one of those transfers of points in a year.

Is this true even in the case of a resale?

Do transferred points retain their use year? That is, do the points A transferred to B expire at the end of A's use year or B's use year?

Thanks

The real estate transaction from DVC or another owner is the purchase of an ownership interest; it is not a "transfer" of points as that term is used in relation to transfers in any giving year. Also, in the above example if Member A makes a ressie using A's points for B and then just transfers the confirmation notice, that is also not a "transfer" of "points" under the provisions that allow only one such transfer per year. A transfer of points only occurs when one member actually transfer his points to another member's account. The recipient then has those points in his account and can use them as he pleases and they will expire at the end of the transferor's use year; but note that the recepient can actually bank those points (new rule last August) as long as he does so in accordance with banking dates applicable to the transferor.

Note that you can not transfer BANKED points. If you have points that will expired because you did not bank them then you can tranfer them to another DVC member. If those points were already banked from the previous year then they have to be used before end of use year and they can't be transferred out.

I had this happen after I bought my resale. Even after I booked my upcoming trip on banked points from the previous owner, I still had 22 points left that were expiring. My aunt is a DVC member and she was going to WDW before the end of my use year. She was staying at the GF for 6 nights (Sat-Fri). I couldn't just transfer them to her since they were banked points. So, I made a reservation at the GF for her last night for 26 points (had to borrow 4 points) and put the reservation under her name. I gave her the booking number and she called MS to have the two reservations linked together.

Hope this helps.

It would need to be a different use year for BOTH members in order for this to work becaue you can only have one transfer IN or OUT per contract.
