Transferring Points....new policy?

Interesting. We are new members and have never done a transfer. Was looking at maybe doing an Aulani transfer through a broker since we are planning a trip during a holiday week and want to book 11m out.
Wonder how it works with a broker doing a transfer?

I transferred points through a broker in 2020. I listed my points with them and a few weeks later they contacted me saying they had a buyer. They gave me the buyer's member number and name and I called MS and made the transfer. BTW, the first time I called, MS wanted both members on the line. I just called back and got someone who did the transfer w/o the buyer on the line.

I think the security challenge question was just asking for my address and phone number. That is something the other party had anyway.
Yes, my transferee had a choice of last four digits of ssn or address. I had her address from the check so 🤷 We are both educators and that comradere put her at ease with the whole thing. She said she would buy extra points from me every year do hopefully I never have to deal with anyone else! 🤣

If I'm transferring my points to someone, I really don't see why I need to have the receiving person on the phone. Personally, I don't see why this can't be done online.
Aren't you only allowed one transfer per UY? If so, I could transfer 1 point into your account and void your chance of doing one you really wanted to do. Obviously that example is somewhat ridiculous, but I can see there being issues unwittingly receiving a transfer.

So now two people have to wait on the phones together for 2 hours for someone at DVC to answer the phone.

but that means those two people are now only clogging up one phone line, so this means Disney is helping double the customers!!!!

See. This is all for our own benefit. We asked, they answered!

Except the old policy only required one call especially now that points are online. Lol

Wow, thanks for sharing. This is good to be aware of and prepare for. Yeah, I agree, overthinking transfers, but whatever, just go with the flow.

Great3

I think it's worth being cautious in this case. Receiving something you're not entitled to can cause significant unexpected headaches.

Suppose you receive a bank deposit you're not entitled to. The bank can reverse that later if they conduct an audit, and then you're on the hook for overdraft fees, bounced checks, etc. if you spent the money. Even though they'll reverse those after a process, it's still going to be a significant inconvenience. What if you receive points you're not entitled to, use them, and then they realize the mistake later? You could find yourself in a particularly uncomfortable situation.

We've all been repeatedly told "the customer is always right" lie, and a lot of us grew up playing monopoly and vividly remember getting the "bank error in your favor" card. However, a mistake does not necessarily legally entitle you to what you received despite it being someone else's error. You don't want to receive an unsolicited points transfer, either, no matter how exciting it may seem.

Overthinking again. In all cases one knows if they should have received it or not. If it truly is a mistake I believe DVC would reverse it.

You vastly overestimate the average owner's understanding of account and points management.

Transfers can't be done without the assistance of MS. An owner would know a bit about it all if they are actually doing a transfer and have to provide both the name and address of the receiver. It is not providing an account number that could easily be transposed or misread. So unless there are a lot of DVC accounts with the same name and address as someone else then it really isn't rocket science nor even terribly ripe for mistake other than something done by the MS CM. Having both people on the line changes nothing if that is all they require. The exact same mistake could be made either way and it's up to DVC to recover or not. ie - it's over thinking and probably giving a false sense of additional security that really isn't being added.

ok:duck:

How does having both people on the call change the info of having only one? It's been reported they are only asking the second owner for name and address and that's what they have done for years when having only the person transferring on the phone. Have you gotten a transfer you didn't request? Have you transferred points to the random owner just for fun? That the one that DVC could easily reverse. You've posted some rather involved scenarios but not how what they are doing really resolves anything other than the crazed DVC owner using their 1 transfer to someone they don't know just to mess them up. :scared:

I dunno - I guess you're right that I'm overthinking it. I don't really have much else to add, sorry!
