Transferring On Board Ressie to Costco

My dh (thiscloud) booked online last Wednesday for the CA-FL Repo, and we got a cat 12 for 2767 I think it was. I called Costco on Thursday morning and asked to transfer, and she said no problem, put me on hold for about five minutes, and did a 3-way call with DCL. She said I just had to give authorization to DCL to release the ressie to Costco. Saved me 176 bucks. We ended up with 2541.67 for 2 adults and a 3yo in a cat 12.

Well, I just got off of the phone with Costco and after being on hold for 20 min. they told me I had to notify DCL first and have them note that I was transferring my reservation.

Hmmm....so if anyone else is thinking of transferring just a word of warning....you might want to call DCL first and then call Costco so you don't have to be on hold only to be told to call back after notifying DCL first.

This is not true. As long as we have your name and confirmation number we can do this without you calling Disney. You can transfer a reservation as long as you haven't made payment in full already with Disney. The agent you spoke to must have been new, because Disney will transfer to us without you advising them.

OK here's what I did...
I called Costco Travel (wait time less than 10 min) talked with a great guy (Eathan) and he worked his magic with the rate and did a guestimate of savings for us to be about $376 dollars. He never even called Disney to figure it out. He said "to call DCL and tell them you are wanting to switch your reservation over to Costco Travel". I called DCL and told them what I wanted to do. The agent then made a note on my reservation. I then had to call Costco Travel back. (got LaJoy this time) She put me on hold while she called DCL. By the way DCL is a longer wait time than Costco Travel! She than told me my total price is now $4050.78. Eathan was right on at his guess! We are doing the CA to FL, 1 Adult 1 child(age 4 at sailing) in a reclassified Cat 7. I am so glad I called right away on Wednesday. We couldn't even get on the ship at the lowest level cabin at that price today. (If there was any available)

I guess it depends on who you get, he was also willing to it and gave me a perfect quess at what my saving might be. .

Both repositioning cruises are now sold out, but availability does change since people cancel.

I've been wondering if the DIS had any Costco travel reps represented. I've seen DCL and DU agents, but never Costco, who we use whenever we cruise. GO COSTCO!!

By the way, is there a way to ask or get a specific agent each time you call? I've never had a problem with any of Costco's agents, all have been professional and friendly, but it would be great to be able to talk to the same person if problems or questions came up.

I just happen to love the disboards that's why I am here all the time. When I see a question about Costco, I just can't help but jump in to help.

Unfortunately, because we are a reservation center and growing so much, it's not possible to request a certain agent. But, we are all here to help!

Will Costco provide a quote before transferring the res? I don't currently have a membership and they don't have any local stores in my area. So the only reason to get the membership would be to save some extra on the cruise. Would they give a quote before I joined?

I'd like to know the answer to this, too. I am not crazy about transferring, then transferring back if the price is not better. Can they provide a price at the time I call without actually transferring it?

They gave me a ballpark, but weren't able to give an actual price because the cat 12's were sold out. But once they had DCL on the line, they were able to give me the exact price before I said go ahead.

If you call, ask them for the price and tell them not to actually transfer it unless you give the ok. I can't imagine that they wouldn't be able to give you some savings. We originally booked on the DCL website, at about 10:30am on Wednesday, so we got the rock bottom price. Even then, they were able to give us $176 off, which was actually a couple dollars lower than the ballpark she had given me.

The rate with Costco will always be lower than the rate you booked directly with Disney.

Always?? Even a cruise booked onboard months earlier?

Yes, because the Costco rate is based on the rate you paid with Disney. It's a direct discount off of the base price of the cruise.

Sorry, Costco doesn't provide quotes to non members. But, I can tell you the savings will be well worth the $45.00 it costs for a membership.
