Transferring of points from another owner?

We need a few extra points to round out our stay and are wondering about the transferring of points from someone else. Yes, I know we can buy some from Disney but as usual, that is at a premium so....we are looking at buying some from another member. I can't remember exactly how this all works and what price per point we can expect to pay?

Thanks for the info!

You could just go on the Rent/Transfer board and see what people are offering.

However ... most members are not going to want to transfer a small amount of points to you because only one transfer per year is allowed.

If you need 24 or less points, you are most likely going to find it easier to pay the $15/point through DVC. But you can only do that at the 7 month window or less.

If that doesn't work, you could see if someone would rent you points (a reservation) but you can only do that for whole night(s) - you can't mix your points and someone else's points for one night - you would have to have 2 reservations then.

Am I allowed to post that I am looking for X # of points for a transfer? A lot of the rules have changed since I've been on the Rent/trade board.

Thanks!

No but you can reply to thread where someone is offering points.

Why? We used to be able to post that we were looking for X, Y or Z and have members respond. Why is that not allowed any more? :confused3

The rules for the Rent/Trade board were adjusted last year. If you head over there, you can find all the new information about the board policies.

Thank you!

IMO it is more of a hastle to have points transfered in. For our last trip (15yr Anniversary) we had points transfered in and it has been a nightmare from that point on. Reservations were canceled/put on hold and many HOURS spent with MS on the phone trying to resolve. DW wanted to sell membership! Our trip was in May 2011 and DVC is still saying the points are in our account and were trying to apply them to our next reservation in Jan. I know we could easily use them for that trip, but we are honest and could not sleep at night! My recommendation would be to spend the $15/pt from DVC!

Well since I'm not allowed to post a specific need of # of points, I am thinking that it might be easier to rent one night from someone. Otherwise I could be waiting forever to see someone post "just the right amount" of points. Question is, can that night be added to our own reservation to form a complete reservation?

Hi Sandi,

I did read the policies but it does not explain why people can't post that they are looking for specific dates or transfers, etc. I am not trying to start trouble but I am just curious why this was changed....

Send a PM to the mods (vs. getting into it on the boards). The policies for Rent/Trading have been changed numerous times in the past year or so.

You don't have to have someone offering the exact # of points you need to make a request of them by the way. But that is more difficult with a transfer than a reservation because of the limit on transferring. (Whereas with a rental someone could rent to unlimited # of people until they used up their points).

I am not a mod on the Rent/Trade board but from what I remember during the discussions and changes last year it was decided that posts asking for reservations and/or points would no longer be allowed.

I believe there were a lot of issues with these types of situations and the boards moderators decided it was best to eliminate those as an option.

As mentioned, you don't have to find someone who has exactly the right amount of points--if you see someone who is offering points for transfer for the resort you want, simply post your interest. There are members who are willing to transfer less than the total number of points they have available.

However, depending on how many you are looking for, it may be easier to either rent a reservation for the night. You can now go thorugh MS. While those points are a bit higher--$15 and can only be bought at 7 months--, it is a pretty simple process if you don't need more than 24.

Good luck!

thanks for all the replies. At least there are some options. I am sure we will figure something out!
