Transferring from LGA to JFK?

Has anyone ever flown into LGA and then change airports to JFK? The flights we are looking at get into LGA at 2:00 PM and we have to make our way to JFK by 6:25 PM. The airline of course says that this is possible. We are traveling with the same airline (AA) the whole time but we'd have to collect our luggage at LGA and then head to JFK. Just wondering if anyone has done this, if we have to take a cab, shuttle or something to JFK. The price of the flight is 950.00 from St Louis to Barcelona then Paris back to St. Louis. Any thoughts? :confused3

I'm pretty sure it's possible - but I'm curious. Since the airline routed you this way, do they recommend HOW you travel between the two? I mean, there may be some type of dedicated transportation, but in addition to Googling both airports' websites for transportation information, see what AA suggests.

It has been a while since I had to do this but there is a shuttle between the two airports. I can't remember what it costs but perhaps AA will provide a voucher. I'd ask.

ETA: It was called the New York Airport Express Bus if that helps. I'm sure you can find it online.

The schedule for the bus is online at http://www.nyairportservice.com/page.php?id=57. It usually runs every 30 minutes and takes an hour to travel between the airports, according to the schedule.

It's a straight shot right down the Van Wyck Expressway and shouldn't take more than an hour.

The only part that would worry me would be a delay on your first flight that would eat into your layover/travel time.

That being said, I'd take the chance to save the $$$.

It is doable but if your flight into LGA is delayed you may run into issues. You could either use the bus service a pp posted or a cab, the bus is $13 pp and a cab would run you $50-$60. I live pretty much equidistant from both JFK and LGA and my cabfare runs between $26 and $29 from the airport depending on traffic.

I have done this before. It is a gigantic pain in the behind!!!

If there is anyway you can avoid this, it is worth a little extra expense to do so.

Is this all one itinerary where missing the flight at the other airport would be considered a missed connection due to force mineure (aka schedule irregularity)?

IF you land on time, get off the plane, wait for and then claim your luggage and take transportation from LGA to JFK you are out of the airport in 45 minutes (2:45). Now get transportation, load the luggage and are on the Van Wyck or Belt Parkway hoping they are not backed up (and it is not during the week during rush hour) you would get to JFK at around 4 - 4:15. Check in at the new terminal, go through security. If you have the best laid plans it might work but it is not worth the stress and worrying of IF it all goes as planned. Pay the extra $$$ and stay in one airport.

You are cutting it real close. The traffic alone is a complete nightmare at that time especially the Van Wyck. At the big airports they want you there 2 hours before for domestic and 3 hours for international. There has to be a better way to do this. LaGuardia and JFK are not known for being on time. I would call the airline back. Maybe there is a better way to do this. The airlines will tell you anything for $$$$$.

Yes.

This proposed flight is not a VALUE at all. Consider value, not just cost. The amount of time involved, the potential for things to go askew, the amount of money for the transfer, the potential for delay - all of those make this a poor value.

OP indicated this is an international trip...so extra time for customs clearance may also be needed in one direction and/or the other. I would rather not fool with the transfer, personally.
