Transferred points now able to book online!

I just did an unscientific test and from what I can see it’s has something to do with the transferred points being bookable at the 11 month window as @JackosinDIS mentioned.

However not only am I able to use my transferred in points during the 11 month window by myself, I’m also able to book at resorts which I received points for when I bought OTUP, in my case Poly and VGC. That is hardly intended.

Currently I can book at the 11 month window for transferred in points and OTUP but unfortunately not at the resort I own at with the exception of AKV Jambo.

ETA: I expect the option to use transferred in points by yourself during the 11 month window to go away again.

The reason that the transferred points never worked online was because of OTU points.

So, it does seem to match you having the ability to use those.

:worried:

Hopefully they keep the change. This would make it so that 2 use year members can just transfer all of the points from one membership to the other in case they want to combine points for a trip without any major negatives!

That assumes that Disney believes it’s a good idea to have multiple UY’?

Problem is it would also make it a LOT easier for the LLC’ which move points around to use those points at the 11 month window.

Furthermore if Disney wish to dial back the transfer of points or keep it at the current level then they wouldn’t make it easier to use the transferred points.

On the other hand if a big chunk of the calls to MS is about using transferred points then they could make those calls go away and eventually scale back on the frontline MS on the phone.

But honestly I don’t the latter has any bearing.

Meh. They already heavily limited LLCs by enforcing the one transfer per year limit.

And if they transfer points in to a resort that they already own, they could still book 11 months with how the system had worked before even if it wouldn't let them use the points in the online system. They could book with their points, contact member services and reallocate to the transferred points and repeat.

The DVC system already requires 2 use years if you truly want to be able to vacation in all 12 months with the lowest possible risk of points expiring.

I definitely do think it would cut down a bit on MS phone/chat usage as well. Seems like a win win to me. They already have plenty of ways they could strike at the LLC renters if they want to, no need to punish actual legit members to do it.

I’m not saying there aren’t any ways around it. I just don’t think Disney intended to make it easier.

Also by making the use of transferred points easier why should people buy more points? Why not just get a transfer instead if EVERYTHING is the same.

I agree I don't think they are trying to make anything easier for the LLCs. They may just be trying to make things easier for the actual legitimate owners to use their points or to reduce the amount of MS help needed.

Transferred points are a one time thing and don't get you points every year like a new contract would. They aren't the same thing. Also it is against the rules to pay for transferred points, if DVC decides to try and enforce the rules to stop it, they can.

If you however know members that are just raring to give their points away every year, I wouldn't mind getting their info... 🤣

@Sandisw
Since you could book normally with your RIV and VGF points at 11 months are you able to book one of your OTUP resorts also at 11 months?

I know you can only hit “continue” and will most likely be stuck at the contract selection screen but are you able to get this far?

It would not let me get past choosing it. Got the were message.

But I don’t have any OTU points left. They have already been used.

I was able to book with my SSR points too. I had no trouble in any of my 3 UYs to book home resorts.

Just In.

I just tried to make a new 11 month reservations at it works fine again. I can still try to make an 11 month reservation at my OTUP resorts. But since I don't have any points available it's moot - if I had points I guess I could have booked. Still puzzles me that this option is even here.

I also tried to modify a reservation and that works again as well.

I'm also still able to use my transferred in points for a new 11 months reservation - For now at least I'm wrong about the feature going away.

Can anyone else confirm that we are back to normal? - With the option to use transferred in points ourselves.

The only reason I can think of for being able to use OTUP at their home resort during the 11 month window online would be that they're being treated the same as transferred points. I'm only spitballing but I'm guessing that they wanted to make it possible to book with transferred points online at 11 months and this is just a side effect of that change.

I would normally agree with you.

But last week DVC made another change which allows you to see all transferred and OTUP contracts on you account, same page where we bank our points.

Transferred in points have a different contract name vs OTUP which starts with something like vmotup. That way they can actually distinguish between the two and filter out OTUP contracts.

I transferred in BWV points from another UY and purchased OTUP in order to make a reservation this past summer. I don't recall seeing any differentiation between the way they were annotated in my account at the time but I can now see them when I click on Manage Points. Oddly, the OTUP were taken from 2 resorts, VGF and SSR. The VGF points are listed as OTUP Contract # but the SSR is listed as Transferred In Contract #.
