We have a family trip planned for early June, 2014. We would like to have the last weekday night in a GV TP View at BLT. Would you think it would be better to look for a BLT transfer (does it have to be in my use year?) OR would it be better to just rent BLT points?

I have VWL points that I would rent to offset my costs either way...

So, experts, what are your thoughts...the more I think about it, I afraid to chance waiting at 7 months to see if that one night is available...and use my VWL points...but since we'll be 11 nights in at GV at OKW...it would just be cleaner to have the original reservation clean... 2 nights BCV, 10 nights GV at OKW with the finale at BLT (grandson's BD).

Love the planning...and excited since we leave for BCV this THURSDAY...only six more sleeps! :cool1:

If you get a points transfer, you have control of the points and the reservation(s) made with them.

If you rent, you are dealing with the other member to make the reservation and if something needs to be changed, it's back to that member to handle the changes.

Everything else being the same (price, UY, home resort) - I will always choose a Transfer over Rent because of the control factor.

The only limitation of course to transferring is the one time per UY deal.

Hmm.. with VWL points, you might get someone to do a transfer both ways (to you and from you ... but in 2 different UYs) if they wanted the advantage of getting VWL around Christmas time. Might be an interesting trade.

I know VWL at Christmas is prime time...which is why I wasn't too concerned about renting my points...which is why we bought them...actually we should close next week (already been through ROFR thankfully made it through).

BUT...could I transfer in BLT now...? To make a reservation for June 2014? I need to make that reservation in July this year...and then offer a transfer in 2014 for my VWL points?

Do I need the BLT to be in my use year (December), or can they be another use year...if the reservation is June 2014, can I use use year point for July, August, September, etc? Don't quite understand the transfer part...understand once a year part...

Thanks for everyone's input...love disboards... :wave2:

You need BLT points that would be valid for a June 2014 stay. That means the 2013 use year for August, September, October & December. If you get 2013 points from February, March, April or June, you could bank them after they are transferred into your account, so those would work, also.

Transferred points will retain their original use year and resort tag. They do not have to be your same use year.

Thanks so I need to stalk the Rent forum to hope for a BLT to pop up willing to transfer...in the next two months...

So,
So, aren't the 2013 points from February, March, April or June, past the banking deadline for 2013? Can I bank them after they are transferred into your account?

Perhaps I should stick to any point 2013 after July...then there is no issue...

Points have to be banked by the end of the 8th month of the use year. For example, August 2013 points must be banked by March 31, 2014.

You can get points up to and including October, 2012 points (assuming you get them before May 31 and can then immediately bank them).

I prefer transfers over rentals. We don't do it frequently and I like having the points. I just did a point transfer from another member and we conference called Member Services to make sure everything was handled and then banked the points in the same call.
