Have 1 bedroom booked for July, 4 nights (using 2008 UY points). We may possibly want to invite some family along and would then need 2 bedroom villa.

We'll need additional points to cover change to 2 bedroom (can't borrow from 2009 allotment from what we understand because UY is Sept.) so wondering how best to approach this . . .

- rent member's points in amount needed & have them transfer points to our account and
then we make changes needed to our current reservation?

OR

- to not have a member use their (& our) annual transfer option, is it possible to rent member's points but have them 'upgrade' our existing reservation to a 2 bedroom ? meaning, could that member change our reservation if we give consent to do so ?

Many thanks.

You are correct, with a September UY, a July 2008 visit is in your 2007 use year. You can not use Sept 2009 points.

There are two ways to work this.

1) Transfer points from another member and make the reservation yourself

2) Make as much of the reservation as you can in a two bedroom unit, then rent a reservation for the remainder of the vacation from another member and link the reservations.

You can not "mix points" for any given day from two different contracts, without a transfer. In other words if a night required 25 points, and you have 15 remaining, you can not rent 10 points from another member to complete that night UNLESS you transer the points into a single account.

transfer of points into our account; seems it would be easiest way to go about things.

Appreciate your reply, it explained things very well.

I know you may have already thought of this, but you might want to make sure there are 2bdrs available first. Also, you can't make 'changes' to your reservation. What happens is, if what you now want is available, they cancle your old reservation, and book your new reservation.
What you might end up needing to do is book a separate reservation for the additional guests with the points you get from someone else, and request that you're close to each other. I only say this if availability is limited.

will check availability on 2 bedroom and it's good idea to hang onto 1 bedroom we have booked right now because at least we have our reservation. We can try booking a studio for additonal guests; even if that has to be at a different dvc resort I think they will still be pleased with their accommodations.
