Is there anything in the member handbook on the website about transfering points from one contract to another? If not, it is available somewhere else?

Thanks.

There's really nothing about transferring points in the Member Guidebook except for statements that banked or borrowed points may not be transferred.

As far as I know, there isn't anything on the website, either.

MS is the only "official" source I know of for info on the rules for transferring points.

the official/legal rules are defined in the Multi-Site Public Offering Statement under Home Resort Rules and Regulations, Section II. Using Home Resort Vacation Points #5. Transferring Home Resort Vacation Points Between Club Members.

the latest copy i have is from last year August 2002.

i was hoping there will be a new updated printing of the Multi-Site POS since they just started selling SSR.

in any case, MS's computer system was never programmed to actually be able to adhere to the official/legal rules that DVD outlined in the POS.
as a result, there is some rule bending, and unwritten rules that have been in place at MS. and there are some loopholes in the process.
some MS agents are more knowledgeable than others regarding Transferring points.

i hope they'll fix MS's systems soon.
it's a bit ridiculous to define rules, but then have a system that can't follow the rules.

HTH.

I agree. It seems ridiculous that I can transfer points that are expiring if I use them, but they don't expire if the transferee has a later use year (a loophole acknowledged by a guide (not mine) very recently when we were talking).

I've seen reference to the dreaded loophole several times over the last few weeks. How many people do you think take advantage of the loophole? I would guess less than 2% of the entire membership knows about it and less than 1% ever use it to their advantage. Of those that do use it, I doubt that more than a handful have used the loophole more than once.

You may ask what I'm basing my assumption on. Basic human nature. People are basically honest and don't want to get caught bending the rules.

Let me give an example of what I consider to be a harmless use of the loophole. I have two contracts - BCV and BWV - same use year.

I want to make an 11 month ressie at BCV for a family reunion. I'm going to book 3 one bedroom villas and I have all of the points I need by banking and borrowing except for five points. With the loophole I can just use my once a year transfer to move the five points from BWV to BCV and make my 11 month ressie so everyone can make concrete plans to come. Without the loophole I will not have enough points so I won't be able to book one night of one room until the 7 month window. That may mess up a once in a lifetime family reunion. There are workarounds but nothing certain and it would require additional work and worry.

Do I think there are people really taking advantage of the system and profiting from it? Maybe 25 out of 65,000+ members would have the b***s to try and maybe 5 would succeed. Big deal. I won't lose sleep over it and I'm sure Disney is not losing any sleep over it either. You also have to give some credit to the CM's at MS. They would catch on to someone abusing the system.

Just my 2 cents.
