Transfer Questions

Two transfer questions:

1) Can banked points be transferred?
2) Is the one transfer/year rule based on (a) the year in which you requested the transfer or (b) the UY of the points? For example, let's say I owned 400 points with a UY of April. Let's also say I have 100 points left this year. Could I do the following:

-- Bank my 100 points from the current UY to 2008
-- Call MS in a few weeks and transfer 200 points for my 2008 UY to another DVC member and have that count as my one transfer for this year?
-- Call MS again on April 1 and have them transfer another 200 points for the 2008 UY to a second DVC member (and have that count as my one transfer for next year?)

Sheesh.....this gets complicated!

I appreciate the help from all of you experts!

You can't transfer banked or borrowed points. But transferred points can be banked by the new owner.

It's based on the use year of the contract in question.

Dean/Deb&Bill -- Thanks for the responses.

Now I have more questions though.....

If I need to transfer a total of 200 points to another DVC member and 100 are in the current UY and 100 are in the next year, can I do that or will MS consider that to be two transfers?

Also, Dean, I'm not sure I understand your answer.....if all of the points I wanted to transfer were in my April 2008 transfer, could I transfer some of those now to one DVC member and then another portion of my April 2008 UY points to a different DVC member on April 1?

Thanks to everyone for the help!

I think we're all still figuring and how the new transfer system is going to work exactly. In theory, you could transfer 100 points from this use year and 100 points in next shoe share at the same time.

As to the additional questions, you would not be able to transfer a portion of your April 2008 points to one member and another portion to another member or at another time.

First off, I don't know whether there is a definitive answer (yet?).

However, I posed a similar question in February 2007. The answer(s) I got were a bit different. I'm not sure if the differences are based on several add'l months of insight, or just differing opinions. In any case, see thread 1365252:

for that discussion.

my question is: we did a transfer to some friends during 2007 uy to use to get a larger room this aug. so this is the 2007 transfer for both of us. now we are going to reserve them a room at hhi for next summer with our points, and they will transfer the amount of points used for that res to us from their ssr contract to be used for cruise fall '08.

can this transfer be done this summer and count as 2008 transfer since that is when the points will be used?

After multiple discussions with MS, my learning is the limit of the one transfer/year applies to the UY of the points and doesn't have anything to do with when the transfer is actually requested. You can request multiple transfers on the same day but they would have to be transfers using points in different UYs.

For example, MS has indicated I could:
1) Transfer some points from my 2007 UY and other points from my 2008 UY to another DVC member as a single transaction today, but then that would count as my transfers for both 2007 and 2008. Even though I have points left in my 2008 UY I would not be able to transfer them.....not now and not on April 1, 2008.
2) I can transfer 2009 UY points to another member toiday if I'd like....even if I just did the above transfer.

One issue though is MS indicated the recipient of a transfer of points far into the future wouldn't be allowed to borrow them.....evidently transferred points can be banked but not borrowed. :confused3 (I didn't push too much on that point.....anybody else ever asked if transferred points could be borrowed forward by the recipient of the transfer?)

I just signed up and am so green at this...I went for the 'double points' incentive, thinking I would use it for a cruise...however, I don't think we are going to be able to do that. So, now I have 400 points I have to use my January 15, 2008...anyone know if those incentive points can be rented or transferred?

I don't know if developer points can be transfered, but they can be rented. To be technically accurate, you would make a reservation with the developer points and rent the reservation.

I'm sure that's true in reality, however I recall reading that the pre-opening points program precluded the renting. I assume that those referred to the developer points.

Well that's a surprise (I don't remember that restriction, but that doesn't mean it isn't so, LOL) - can't imagine how they would enforce it, unless MS refuses to make a reservation for anyone but a DVC member - no name changes, only one unit for the same dates, & Front Desk requires DVC member to check in.

Imagine:

Front Desk CM: "Hello, Mr & Mrs Jones. I see you are not DVC Members. Was this reservation a gift?"

Honest (perhaps naive) Mr. Jones: "No. We paid a DVC member to make this reservation for us."

Front Desk CM: " Um, I'm sorry Mr. & Mrs Jones, you can't check in because the reservation was made with developer points and DVC members aren't allowed to rent those."

:rotfl: :lmao:
Never going to happen, IMHO!
