Would someone please tell me what the difference is in renting and transferring points. Does one have an advantage over the other?

Thanks in advance.....

They can mean the same thing if all you want to do is stay at a DVC property.

Renting points is paying to use someone elses points and you do not have to be a DVC member. The seller usually makes the reservation for you.

Transferring points is when you give or sell points to a DVC member and put the points in their own DVC account and they make their own reservations.

Hope this helps!

hi Ms. WDW, how are you?

they are approximately the same thing.
if a DVC member has some "virgin" points for rent, they can rent them out by either:

1) making a reservation for someone, and renting out that reservation. (this is what we traditionally think of as "renting")
2) or if the interested renter is also a DVC member, they could transfer points directly into the other member's account.

transferring points is fairly complex.
if you are curious, you can take a look at the link in my sig for a list of rules regarding transferring points.
it can take a while to figure it all out though! and many Member Services' CMs are not necessarily trained in all the rules, especially because IMO it's one of the most complex things about DVC.

HTH.

Thank you Steamboat Bill and disneyberry for your replies!

disneyberry - I'm fine thanks! :) I had an idea that they basically one in the same. Now I completely understand. I'll check out your link...thanks!
