Hi,

Is it possible to transfer a reservation from one DVC member to another DVC member?

Thanks,

Chris

Depends what you mean by "transfer".

You can change the name on the reservation to anyone you choose. Your points still pay for the reservaiton.

If you mean have MS give you your points back and take them out of the other DVC Member's account but still keep the reservation, then the answer is no, you can't d that. You have to cancel the reservation to get your points returned. If there is a waitlist for any of the now free days, then the days go to the waitlist.

Didn't they change that as well, or were they just talking about it? I can't remember the details, but I thought I heard at one time that if the name on the reservation changed you needed to cancell and rebook the whole thing. I thought it was another deterrent to speculative renting. Does anyone know?

We changed the names a couple of weeks ago on a reservation and didn't have any trouble.

We are renting points for our trip in November but we just bought into DVC. How can I use my points instead of hers? I'm renting 276 points but my resale is only 80 points.

P.S. CarolMN - LOVE your pic of BW-that is our new home resort!!

I'm thinking that would not be possible. You will not own enough points to cover this reservation, even if you could transfer it to yourself - which you cannot do. The member who owns these points would have to cancel, and you would have to attempt to book a reservation with whatever points are available in your own account, including any you could borrow from next year.

Even if it were possible, this would not be a very friendly thing to do to the member with whom you have an agreement for the points rental. If you have any inclination to cancel the November trip, you need to let the member you are renting from know, as soon as possible.

Keep your rental and bank your new points. You will probably need them next trip anyway.

Thanks - we love the BWV. That picture is nice, but it doesn't really capture how beautiful it was. I was sitting outside the Boardwalk Bakery while my DH walked down past ESPN to take the picture. He did good, didn't he? :teeth:

As Grandbuddy already posted, you can't use your points for the reservation. You don't have enough - the most you can ever have at one time is 3 years worth, which would be 240 if your contract is for 80.

Even if you had enough, there is no way to keep the same reservation and substitute your points for your renters. If your rental agreement permitted, you could cancel the reservation, the renter would get her points back and the days would be returned to the inventory. If there weren't any waitlists for those days & room type, you could then make a new reservation with your points. However, I would be very surprised if there were still availability for your November dates at the BWV. That's a popular time and I'm quite sure there are waitlist for at least some of your dates.

Also most rental agreements are nonrefundable - again as Grandbuddy said, a cancellation with refund could put the renter in a bad position, depending on the points used to make the reservation.

If you are worried about the cost, you could rent your "new" points out to someone else.

Congratulations on your purchase - I'm sure you'll find many ways to use the points.

Nothing from DVC, it's been posted as wishful thinking here on DIS, I'd guess that's where you saw it.

Thanks for the help everyone. I realize I couldn't use my points for the whole trip. I will probably just bank the points and have a better room or longer trip next year. My renter has been great and although she has said I have up to 60 before we go to cancel (we are at SSR from 11/8-11/14), I wouldn't want to put her in a spot. I've e-mailed her the question of not borrowing 80 of her points and using mine, but also stated that it would be fine with me if she can't do that.

If she has already made the reservation, her points are already borrowed and can not be returned to their original use year.

The only way to swap our your points for her points would be to cancel the nights you would use for those points. Then you have to rebook. And if there is already a wait list for those nights, you go to the end of the waitlist. Unless you are transferring your points to her in lieu of payment for the same number of points.

Thanks for the confirmation, I'm sure that's the case...it wouldn't be the first time I have confused "Dis Board" information with "official" information:)

I bet each and every one of us on this board for any length of time has had that issue come up. I know every other year when I renew my CPR, I have to think what is this years rules as opposed to 5 or 10 years ago.
