Transfer and useyear question ~ Help!

Help! We were about to do a transfer and DVC is telling us that the points won't be available until December. !?

The party with the points, has a Sept 1 use year (just got their 2010 pts a week ago) and I have a December 1 use year. When we called Disney, they told us that after the transfer we won't be able to use the pts until Dec 1, but they will expire Sept 1 2011. It seems wrong that transferred points take on the later use year month of the acct they are going into and but still expire on the use year of the account they came from. You get cheated out of 3 months of being able to use the points? Of course, I want to make a reservation for November using these points.

Anyone have any info about this? Heard of this before?

No call back and talk to a supervisor, many of the CM are not up to speed on the rules. Point retain there origonal characteritics except that they may not be borrowed or transfered back out.

I think they are telling you that you would be borrowing the transferred points. But if they are clearly Sept 2010 points, they remain Sept 2010 points even when they are transferred to you.

Are you talking about a Nov 2010 reservation? Is there anything even available for Nov 2010?

You would be borrowing your Dec 2010 points for a Nov 2010 reservation.

You shouldn't have a problem using Sept 2010 points for a Nov 2010 reservation.

I too think that the CM is misinformed.

If you are getting 2010 UY points from September, then those points retain their own UY and home resort.

They will be valid for stays from September 1st, 2010 through August 31st, 2011.

And, it would count as your and the other owners 2010 UY transfer.

Now, if I understand things, I don't think you can combine those Sept UY 2010 points with your Dec UY 2010 points until December 1st, 2010 for a single night, unless you borrow your 2010 UY points back in to your 2009 UY.
