Thinking about booking this TA for May 2025.

How is the weather in the Atlantic in early May? A bit nervous about it being a too cold for my liking
On a cruise, I consider 'cold' anything below 68F, or 20C, considering the winds and what not - On dry land of course those temps are fine.

Also, how is it so 'cheap'? - compared to other sailings obviously.. Less than $8k for 3 ppl, 13 nights, in a verandah room??? that's a steal!

In regards to price, I always do a per night breakdown. $8,000 divided by 13 is about $615/night. You said you have 3 people, so that would be just over $200/person per night. You can't even get a nice hotel room in Chicago for that price, let alone all your meals and entertainment included. That's the bar I use to price compare.

P.S., I'm on that sailing. I've always wanted to do a transatlantic, and when I saw it was the Fantasy, that was a no-brainer for me!

BRB, Gotta go book this!

(Unfortunately I'm joking. I like being married, and announcing another booking would bring a swift end to my marital bliss)

This is the best cost breakdown I've seen. Definitely gonna use this for further ... ::ahem:: ... "explanations" in the future. 8-) "Baby, it's barely more per night than All Star Sports! At that price, it would be rude NOT to book!"

Right? No brainer is the right word.
Hope we can make it (DD is checking to see if dates don't interfere with her university exams)
What have you heard about the weather in May?

Although the price per night is good for the TA, I would check flight prices before you book. I booked mine with miles to avoid the high one way fares. If you can be flexible with dates, airports or layovers you will get a better deal.

I've honestly not heard much about the weather in May. That wasn't a factor in us booking the transatlantic. Whatever it is, we'll take it.

IIRC, I've heard that it (the weather) can vary a lot.

We did the E.B.T.A. in 2022, the weather was fine. The route is southerly so you usually don't get the colder weather as the more northern route. We did miss Punta Delgado in the Azores owing to a weather system which meant the ship could have been unable to leave the port but it didn't affect us as we had plenty of warning. We did get to have an overnight in Lisbon though.
Of course the weather in the Atlantic is always changeable but I would happily do another.
Regards Michael

Price is great! Book it! I did a west bound TA from U.K. to NYC in September one year. Canada was balmy but crossing was chilly, windy, no one on the pool deck. Hard to predict weather 8 months in advance. Were you planning to get a tan?

Weather on the southerly route should be nice. Won't be Aruba weather, but won't be Maine either. Recommend checking out historical weather for the Azores during that time of year. On sunny days, it'll be a delightful crossing.

Seas should be fine too. Probably some motion, but not anything like the direct NY to Southampton. That can get a bit rough as late as June (in my experience).

Enjoy your cruise!

We did this last year and it was amazing! You will love it! We are doing the WBTA next year and I am keeping my fingers crossed the weather will cooperate.

We did it this year. Weather was great, cruise was amazing! Repositioning cruises are always the best value, regardless of cruise line. For example, Carnival ended a sale recently in which an EBTA from Tampa was selling for less than $1500 (four people, interior) next April/ into May.

Disney will most likely eventually offer discounted “guaranteed” rates on this cruise. Expect a balcony fot 3 people to cost around $6K.

RT airfares originating from Europe can be priced cheaply - keep looking and you’ll find a deal. We got a RT for less $400 - obviously we only needed the outbound and but it included the exact flights I wanted anyway (which were priced over $1000 for a one-way).

I haven't done the transatlantic cruise but did need one way flights to Europe. For that trip it was cheaper to book the round trip. we did and then after I arrived I canceled the return and had an ecredit with delta. That could be an option to reduce the fare. It gave me about 9 months to use it. Just make sure you take the first flights because if you miss any the remaining flights get canceled.

Thank you. Yeah weather is the main issue with me, I don't enjoy as much the shows, entertainment, and I'm not a foodie, but I am outside a lot, either walking on deck 4, sunbathing on the pool deck, or just sitting in the balcony reading... so if it's chilly/super windy, it takes a lot out of my enjoyment of the cruise... is why I'll never do an Alaska or Fjords cruise, no matter how much begging from my DD and her mom 😌

We did it in May 2023 and the weather was great! We did the pool a few days, and a few days it felt too cool for the pool, but I don't recall anytime where we couldn't enjoy the decks.

It was by far one of the cheapest vacations we've taken, even with the return flight + 3 nights in Barcelona. We booked a VGT room.

These “repositioning” cruises (whichever ocean) are historically lower priced per night. A lot of that is length of cruise. Also one-way means you are flying at least one direction. And often, few port stops and a lot of Sea Days. I think Sea Days are a really big reason. The thought of being really far from land can freak out some people. And they are usually not during school breaks = lower prices. In general, all travel during May and Sep/ October have been shoulder seasons with lower costs on airfare and hotels - and most cruises.

We did the EBTA in a late April, stopping first at Madeira - so a little farther north than the Azores; maybe slightly more Southern routing.

I am cold natured. I do not remember being cold outside. But as usual, I would have worn a jacket inside the ship.

I imagine it will be warm-to-hot once you reach the port stops.

We did the EBTA in early May of 2023. The weather was perfect, the seas were very smooth. Other than a light jacket out on deck, I didn't feel cold.

The Transatlantic is considered a repositioning cruise so the prices are traditionally less expensive than a regular cruise.
