We're staying onsite and using WDW transportation, but thinking about taking a day to go to Universal Studios. Any recommendations on best form of transportation to get there? any shuttles onsite? rental car locations onsite?

Disney doesn't provide shuttle to Universal. But you could take a Mears shuttle. If you go to their site you should be able to get more info on it. Most of the towncar companies also offer service between US and WDW.

Or you could rent a car at the Car Care Center or the Dolphin Hotel. Both are on WDW property. That would probably be less expensive than Mears if you're bringing the whole family!

Good luck,
Bob

Hi California Mom (I'm originally from So. Cal.). For the first time, we'll be renting a car for our trip. Why? I added up the cost of taxis round trip from airport to WDW and then roundtrip from WDW to Universal (we want to go once while on our trip) and it was more expensive than a weekly rate for a rental car. Now, with the rental car we may even use for WDW sometimes - like going to the water parks (schlepping all the stuff), or to other resorts, or Downtown Disney. I've always resisted renting a car down there, because I spend my whole life driving the kids around and I wanted it to feel more like a vacation. So, we'll see which is the best plan! (We go in 13 days!)
