Trans-Siberian Orchestra

We have gone at least 8 or 9 times. But we hated last years show. It was dark, and I was really not happy about the content of the show. I don't want to hear how a dad has a problem with his new born baby because the baby caused the death of his wife....Not my idea of Christmas.
I believe that this year is the same show, and while they will be in our town for the first time in many years we are going to give it a pass.
We have included this concert with a trip to WDW to see the Christmas lights and MVMCP for a few years...it was a great excuse to go down to Orlando.

My mom takes my brother every-single-year. They both love it. He's not a child though. He is a 29 year old who still lives with her. ("Portland, where the young go to retire."--Portlandia)

I've never seen it but would love to one day--that being said, I'd never spend $500 on tickets (is that really how much they are???!!!)

If you happen to visit Universal Orlando at the right time during the holidays, you can see Mannheim Steamroller's Christmas show for the price of a park ticket. It's ground seating, but the show is good.

I had gone to many Christmas TSO shows and was very pleased. Last year I decided to take my granddaughter and grandson, ages 9 and 7, respectively. I did not like the show story this time. (see comment above). Depressing. If I had known in advance I wouldn't have taken them. As for the second part of the show, they curled up in their seats and slowly closed their eyes. We stayed only 5-10 minutes more as I was hoping the tempo would pick up. Granddaughter said the songs were like a lullaby. Sweet. She was right. If it would have been like the prior years they would have loved it. Me, too. They did like the pyrotechnics and laser lights at the beginning of the show.

Last year's show is the only TSO show that I have been to. I wonder now if I would have liked some of their other shows better than I liked last year's show. The dark content of the Christmas story was one part of the show that I thought was really odd. It sure wasn't an upbeat show at all.

I went three years in a row, and it was awesome every year. I missed last year because they didn't come to our city for some reason. The first year was wonderful. Just my husband and I went and the show was really long (almost 4 hours), and they were great. They did a dueling piano bit that was my favorite.

The next two years we took our whole family with us, and they absolutely loved the show. We were a tiny bit disappointed, though, because it was a bit shorter each year. The third year was noticeably shorter and it lacked a certain "Christmas" charm--maybe because we saw it a few days after Christmas. Later we found out that half the cast had the flu, which really explains a lot of that.

I would take any age kid to this show, except for babies/toddlers. It's really too loud for them. Some people get a little too worked up/too drunk and start acting like they're at a rock concert, but most of the crowd is made up of families. They probably set up differently depending on the venue, but I wouldn't recommend any floor seats (usually the VIP section, I think). That seems to be where the most of the rowdy crowd sit. The obnoxious people are really few and far between. A lot of people will drink beer the whole time, but a lot of people won't. The ones that do normally don't show any sign of being drunk. One time I heard a guy yell "f***" from the floor section, and the performer actually told him to hush because it was a family friendly show. And another time we heard a bit of commotion behind us and realized that an older gentleman and younger man had gotten into some sort of argument, and they escorted the young guy out. That was all there was to that.

The show itself is so loud and entertaining that I seriously doubt children would have noticed any of these things. I was just paying extra close attention because my little brothers were there.

My DH took my sons (who were 7 and 5 at the time) last year, and they loved it. They didn't stay for the whole thing - I think they left about 1/2 hour into the second part. I'm not a fan of TSO and I didn't go and probably never will (loud music bothers me). But I think he's going to take DD4 as well this year.
