Okay all you Disney fanatics! I need your help..... are there really trained squirrels in Epcot and if so where are they? My lovely sis doesn't believe me and I want to prove to her that I'm not making it up! Thanks all!

I've had squirrels eat out of my hand at AK's Conservation Station, but not at Epcot. At the outdoor Cantina San Angel at Epcot I've given some pesky birds a nacho with hot sauce on them and watched in amazement as they repeatedly flew them down to the lagoon, washed and eaten them.

A persistent rumor resurfaces again...
Alas, there are no trained squirrels anywhere on WDW property. Many of the squirrels (and birds) are, however, very used to people, a result of being fed hand-outs for over 30 years. This is also the cause of the nuisance seagulls and blackbirds.
I'm not sure if the person who originally coined the term "trained squirrels" meant it as a joke, but if I had to guess, I would say they did. I'm not sure of the significance of Epcot being mentioned, but I would assume that that is where that person (whoever they are) recalls being accosted by the brazen, panhandling vermin.

Short answer: No, no there are none... no.

I saw firsthand an adorable scene at the shop to the left of the turnstiles at World Showcase in Epcot (if you were going into the park).

My friend and I are buying some goodies (candy) and all of a sudden, at precisely the same moment, a squirrel comes into the shop while the cast member is opening a candy bar which, of course, has NUTS in it. The squirrel jumps onto the counter and takes the candy bar with his little paws, shoves it in his mouth, and runs out again. The cast member explained that this squirrel came in at the same time each day for his daily fix.

I'm wondering if this is what you are referring to?

On one of our trips several years ago, we were coming out of PoC. At one of the stands they sell candy bars. While we were paying a squirrel just walks up to the stand and crawls onto the the counter and grabs a candy bar in front of all of us. While the kids were squealing with delight, I got the videorecorder going. The CM was calm about it. She said it happens all the time. It jumped off and scurried to the bushes with its treat...smjj

On one occassion, I was sitting on Main Street waiting for the parade to start. A squirrel walked up and sat down on my feet. It just sat there for awhile and then went on his way. He was so cute. I was just hoping he wouldn't try to crawl any higher.

On another occassion, we watched a couple sitting on a bench near France. A squirrel crawled up on the back of their bench and sat there while the lady feed him a french fry. He wasn't the least bit afraid.

Last week while we were sitting in the Plaza in Italy there was a squirrel that was a little too friendly for me. There was a little boy feeding it and it let him pet him. I was very nervous the whole time. I told my DD6 not to even think about getting close to it!

Well...hmmm...isn't this post interesting?:p Guess I'll have to tell you "I told you so"...*giggle*

It's okay. I still love you. :)

Only nine more days 'til we are together again...enjoyin' the magic!

They aren't squirrels................thye're rats, no kidding. I saw the hugest rat in the MK run across me and scurry into the sewer drain. It was the middle of the day by an ice cream vendor.

Well I guess if you have to be a rat, what better place?
