Train sets, where to start?

Geo Trax are AWESOME!

My son got his when he was 3 and still has them mapped out all over his room at 6.

They have some cools sets out now if you look on their site.

I'm going to get the Christmas set this year to put under our tree.

Thanks for all the replys. So since some of you have mentioned it, what train/activity table do you recommend. Thanks.

We have Brio and wooden Thomas trains and they work well together.

We waited until our third was old enough to play with trains before we bought a wooden train table. I truly wish we had bought one earlier. We thought it was a splurge, but the older ones would have really enjoyed it. I covered the top with green indoor/outdoor carpet cut to the right size. It helped keep scratches to a minimum and really looked cute.

Now that DS12 is old enough that the trains have been packed away, the train table is used as a lego table, a puzzle table, or a game table.

We went with Thomas, the wooden ones. DS played with them until around 5, so a lot of years. They're in storage now for the grandkids some day.

Chuggington has both wooden and diecast trains. The wooden trains will work with Thomas and other brands of wood track. The diecast trains have a more narrow wheelbase and will not work on wooden tracks. We have Imaginarium(toys r us brand) and thomas brand track. We have both wooden and diecast chuggington trains and we have some thomas and imaginarium trains.
We also have a large assortment of geotraxs that are packed away because my son would only play with them with someone else. The wooden trains he will play with by himself for hours.
