Disclaimer this is second thread that I've created and it is poorly thought out and written.
As a rapidly aging relic, I am not naturally inclined to dash off great copy for internet posts, yet I try again.
Last night I posted on Rumors board and 2 kind souls responded.
DW says it is secondary to being boring and arcane. She also said my post was transportation related and not rumorboard worthy (I posted there on first thread to begin with.)
I said that given airline travel gets more grim price wise and more exasperating every time (to date have not been charged for breathing, but sure that is under review) perhaps we were approaching time when there'd be a Mickey Express coming down the eastern seaboard by rail.
I was duely counseled that though Disney imagineered limited aspects of a cruise ship that they only did entertainment and that rail was subsidised and not profitable and Disney as a for profit wouldn't go there.
Imagineers can do many things. I have read Disney imagineers have been utilized by D.O.D. for the military and I imagine that with budget and time they could have fun with this magical express. I readily conceed too that passenger rail is subsidized, but I think if one captured what we do to support Persian Gulf Oil and what it costs to maintain our interstates the we pay similarly with our budgets and their deficits.
What if you booked your magical express compartment out of Grand central Station and found yourself in a car full of fellow cool aid drinkers (make that Boat Drink Drinkers) and instead of worrying if you were to make a connector your biggest concern was which charactor was signing autographs in the next car. Think video parlor for the kids and tomorrow morning everyone steps off into mouse land. Passenger rail doesn't make profit , but vendors using the system to their advantage might still make their share holders happy.
No doubt this is about a thousand words too long to say too little, but Walt thought is was kind of fun to do the impossible...:3dglasses

I saw you other thread on the rumors board. Not to take the fun out of it.

If it was possible, wouldn't Disney be chartering planes going to Orlando from a handful of major airports right now if it was in their interest to get people to the park in Disney style?

Why just the eastern seaboard? Why not from the west coast as well?

(and *ew* at the Jim Jones reference...I know that tons of people use the kool aid metaphor (for Disney, Dave Ramsey, etc), but when you think about it, you're referring to mass suicide/murder and that's not very disney-like.)

I love the idea especially since the cost of airfare has actually pushed us into booking Amtrak for the first time to return home from Orlando early next year.

Ah to dream!!!

If Disney could do charter air they'd look at it right? Perhaps rail would be viable if air was a non starter. If airservice became immediately exhorbitant as in we had another fuel crisis a rail alternative could be all that kept the mouse afloat. It would be a nice plan B to have in advance.
Just a wonder....
