Following the announcement that the train would not be running from September until next year, I just wondered if anyone knew if you could walk from the North to the South Terminal as we are booked into the Sofitel the night before our flight.
I believe they are laying on buses but I assume these will be 'chockablock' so walking would be a safer option for us. Thanks for any help. ;)

I didnt know about this  really glad I booked Yotel now!

I think the buses will be every couple of mins to be honest the trains were?:) Weve used the train in an evening before and its been pretty quiet - through the day its a different story though!

Personally I wouldnt walk, from what I can remember the route didnt seem very pedestrian friendly

I'm so glad you posted this as I wasn't aware either!! Sorry I wasn't of any actual help in answering your question though

Just had a look on google earth and I don't think you can walk it and it is quite a distance. The transit goes over some 'restricted areas' so you would have to walk further than just the transit route.

We have the same issues too. Oh well never mind at least we are on 13.00 flight which leaves plenty of time :)

Where is this information from?
There seems to be nothing on the Gatwick website, unless I have missed it??

Ak! I was going to book Sofitel (On the Disers Recommendation) for next March. I really don't want to mess around on busses.

Is the Hilton (Or another good hotel) based at the South terminal with a walkway into the terminal?

Oh great. Knew I should have stuck with the Hilton and not bothered trying out the Sofitel.

Waiting for a crowded bus to take us to the terminal with all our cases is NOT my idea of a good start to the holiday!

Also, why the hell is it taking them so long to do the work? It's ridiculous.

Hilton's linked to the South Terminal by a short walkway. VERY convenient. Wish we booked it instead of Sofitel following this news.

Okey dokey! Change of plans to the Hilton it is. :) Could you get a refund and rebook?

No, unfortunately I booked a non-refundable advance rate :(

I might call and try anyway saying that the only reason I booked was because of the train link.

Oh no, just realised we have the opposite problem, we are staying at the Hilton but flying with BA from the North terminal! :sad2:

Just noticed in says the monorail will be closing IN September, doesn't say the start of the month so there may still be a chance it's open. Fingers crossed!

Thank you so much for this. :worship:

We were staying at the Sofitel but flying with Virgin from the South. Although I quite enjoy the bit of fresh air obtained catching the monorail we certainly didn't fancy messing around with the buses so have just cancelled the Sofitel and booked the Hilton ~ and even better :cool1: even with the £15 cancellation charge we have still saved money. :yay:

Thank you again :thanks: ~ I love the DIS! :disrocks:

WooooooHooooo!

I also managed to cancel my Sofitel Reservation (at no charge) and re-booked at the Hilton. The booking agent said they've had many Sofitel cancellations over the last couple days because of the monorail closure!!

Very happy we won't have to mess around with the buses now :goodvibes :thumbsup2

So glad I read this! I had no idea. We are flying BA from north terminal and staying at the Sofitel, but find the restaurant choice much better in the South terminal. Will have to check out the north terminal eating choices now, don't fancy the bus ride.

:) That's great!

Just had confirmation from BAA

"Dear Obi Wan Kenobi

Yes this is true buses will be running interterminal services from the begining of September."

Great :-(
Not going to change to the Hilton, its rubbish compared to the Sofitel, but
No shuttle,
No Virgin Clubhouse

What's next?????

I also prefer the Sofitel, but only very marginally - I certainly would call the Hilton "rubbish". The family rooms at the Hilton are (IMO) just as nice as those at the Sofitel, and the convenience is so much better - especially with the bus system that is going to be running - what a pain with all the luggage! Plus we get HHonors and VA flying club miles by staying at Hilton :goodvibes

Oh, and the Hilton have just (in the past few weeks/month) renovated all the rooms - really nice fresh new decor and much better than in the past (we stayed a couple weeks back and it was great).
